I use ATV4K, Zidoo Z9X, and Panasonic UB9000.

I certainly recommend the ATV4K. Really nice device.

But on an TV elsewhere in the house I have an ONN4K box that's quite nice too. Walmart doesn't sell them anymore but they were $20 and it was easy to block all the ads in the home page on them. Mine just has the things we subscribe to as it's home page.

Get Ready for More Streaming Ads, Say Speakers at EnTech Fest here.

The future of television is much like its past — advertising.

That’s according to speakers at the EnTech Fest 2023, held March 29 in Los Angeles and presented by DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.
No ads for us for a very long time now. I see a few with no sound in some motel lobbies or restaurants, all have been brain dead.

Many years ago many ads were quite creative, catchy pictures, phrases or music. We used to call KAAY (night time clear channel AM) and request a Coke commercial by the Beach Boys.

I don't like ads.

Some folks don't seem bothered by them.

The gambling, prescription drug, and the political campaign ads are among the most offensive.

Making the service worse by pushing some buttons is not just for Netflix.

Movies Anywhere is taking action. Updates for the lose.

What These Updates Mean to You:

As of May 1, 2023, you will no longer be able to send a Screen Pass. For Screen Passes sent prior to May 1, recipients will be able to accept and finish watching the movie before their passes expire.

As of June 1, 2023, we will no longer support the Screen Pass feature. So we are removing the terms related to the “Screen Pass Feature”.

As of June 1, 2023, we will no longer offer the ability to Watch Together. So we are removing the terms related to “Watch Together with Movies Anywhere”.

As of June 1, 2023, we are updating the arbitration terms regarding the procedures for resolving disputes related to your account and the Movies Anywhere service.

By continuing to use or access the Movies Anywhere website or mobile applications or otherwise engage with Movies Anywhere on or after the effective dates above, you accept and agree to the updated Terms of Use.

Think more updates could be coming later this year? Maybe they will change the name to MoviesAtoneparticularhouseonly.

I am glad Apple Family Sharing hasn't started on the cost cutting yet. Could just be a matter of time.

I am surprised at the shift. I used to think physical media was in danger due to the rise of streaming but it's online movie lockers that are actively being destroyed by the rise in subscription services. Didn't see that one coming.

At least Vudu is safe, Walmart isn't going anywhere.

Probably will never happen but I would like to see the true profit (loss) of EST. DEG post the revenue from EST but they do not subtract out the cost of the CDN's and distribution cost.

Yep, would be interesting for sure.

Regardless, as always in my home, disc is king.

Do ads even work at this point on you guys? Like if you make a commercial break long I either give up on the show or walk away. I just noticed a few years ago that commercials seemed really effective on a relatives kids but it feels like white noise to adults. it also doesn’t help that most streaming services bombard you with the same ad on repeat to the point where you go I should pay attention who not to buy from.

Idk it just feels like most ads I either ignore or I’m annoyed by both of which you would think would not be advantageous to selling a product.

Experienced a strange LAN problem that I have never had before. Suddenly my office PC lost connection to the internet so I connected direct to the cable modem and the internet was OK. Connected the cable modem back to the Wi-Fi router and no internet via wired but via Wi-Fi did have internet. Next tried to connect to my LAN servers and got a timeout, tried to ping devices and there was no response.

Disconnected all devices from the Wi-Fi router except the office PC and it worked as it should. So through a long process of elimination I discovered it was my Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player. With it connected nothing on the wired LAN worked, with it disconnected all other devices worked as they should. So I did a power cycle on BDP-S6700 and reconnected to the LAN it everything worked fine. GREMLINS

[Show spoiler]

I generally don't give everything network access.

My disc player, my projector, even my sound processor all have no internet privileges. I want them to stay focused and not get distracted by ransomware.

So far have only had one issue with ransomware and that was using a PC, clicked a link that was supposed to be Tom's Hardware but down loaded ransomware. I have always partitioned my drives with the OS on C:, programs and data on D:, graphics on E: and install files on F:. So on the few occasions with real problems I just restore C: from my last clean, problem free image file.

My players, AVP, etc. need to access the LAN for music and video playback via one of my servers, the internet for Pandora, streaming video, etc.

Also when everyone is home it's common to have 30 things connected to the wifi.

So, any bit I can do to make it simpler I try to do.

I absolutely love having my own movies because if someone is doing a video conference I know I'm not bogging down the connection.

Someday maybe I'll have better internet service but it works as long as I do a little bit to manage it.

I connect my projector to the network when I calibrate it.
I would connect the sound processor and or the disc player if there was ever a new FW but it's unlikely in both cases at this stage.

The ATV4K used to be the only thing connected but I have started experimenting with the Zidoo Z9X and I have been very impressed with it since giving it another chance. I find it completely useless for music as it seems to lack gapless playback. But for movies on any media it does great. It's much better for DVD than my Panasonic UB9000. (For one thing, ... you can see the layer change on the disc player, for another it plays them better.)

I watched Tetris on ATV+ and it was a lot of fun. The 4K DV/Atmos was exquisite.

My Neighbor is my only movie buddy lately and she is heck annoying with the phone.

Seems like she has to update all her profiles to let them know she's watching a movie before we start and then whenever anyone reacts to any of that she has to check that.

Then again, she's single so whatever she needs to do I guess..... it's really not my lifestyle.

I was never one influenced by ads much. as for dealing with them I watch mostly FTAS & OTA that have ads and then for the most part I just skip over them, so it is not the same as for streaming where you can't skip them.
