Since there is no OFFICIAL Apple iPad thread, I figured I would post it here.

Quote:
Apple today announced that iOS 4.2 will be released today for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, bringing iOS 4 features to the iPad for the first time.
Apple today announced that iOS 4.2, the latest version of the world's most advanced mobile operating system, is available today for download for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 to iPad including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint.

"iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit."

Apple also announced that its Find My iPhone feature designed to assist users with locating lost iOS devices is now available to all users of Apple's current-generation iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch free of charge. The feature had previously required a paid MobileMe subscription.

iOS 4.2 has not yet appeared for download through iTunes, and Apple has not offered an exact time for the release.

I haven't really come across any Flash sites that I NEED to visit.

I have been loving mine and look forward to this upgrade. I'm backing my iPd up and then I will update soon.

Have you gotten the USB adapter so you can see your photos on the go?

That's one thing I would love one for, on site photo viewing when at a photo shoot.

Yes, however, I need to to USB from my DSLR because my CF card reader draws too much power.

I do keep a portfolio on it in caase anyone wants to see some shots I have done.

My 4.2 is downloading right now. I will hopefully have it installed by 4pm EST.

i would be sitting on my loveseat surfin the net for it or sometimes taking it somewhere and while on the road amybe watch a video (if i am not the driver). maybe play some online texas holdem, oh and the games. i just cant see the camera thing being a big deal for me.

the only reason why i would wait for the next gen to come out is if it had something better such as software or added free apps or something like that.
You should try facetime. Its really neat. Esp for chilling on the loveseat and you want to hit your friends up.

I just didn't feel like it would be a big enough upgrade to need to wait for it, I already have the iPhone 4 and don't really care about Facetime at all and the resolution on the iPad is already superb. I may have wanted a 128gb model but I doubt I'll fill up the space I have on this one any time soon.

Can't wait to get home and upgrade to 4.2!

Default iPad vs iPad 2

If I want an iPad, is it better to get one now or wait, if I wait to May the reasons for buying it have passed, but if iPad 2 is going to vastly better I would rather wait....

Speaking as somebody who has had an iPad since its initial release, I recommend waiting for the iPad 2.

I'm typing this message on an iPad. It does what I want it to do. I'm not too interested in things like a camera.

I just have alot of PDF's to read for a class, and found I don't like reading them on my laptop, not because of the screen, but because of being able to use it like a printed PDF, I have an iPhone, so I am not worried about the camera. I also would have no need for a PDF reader until fall, so waiting for iPad 2, doesn't help. Have you tired the iPad Digital Camera Connection Kit?

No, I haven't. I just use it mostly to surf the web. I have about 15gb of music on it, and I've used it to watch some digital copies on. That's about it.

I use my iPad for my classes. I use either CourseSmart or VitalSource Bookshelf, which are the two readers that the MBS Bookstore supports.

I also have a digital magazine subscription (JPG Magazine) which are in PDF format. Which brings me to the iPad Camera Connection Kit. It is nice if you do not need to edit your pictures. There have been a few times where my mother-in-law wanted me to take a picture and e-mail it to her. I did and it was cake. However, if you shot a DSLR that uses CF cards, you are limited because not all readers will work with the USB module nor will all CF sizes work (8GB or larger come to mind).

Back to PDF's. I do not annotate them, but I use iBooks for my PDF's. You can now put them into collections. I have JPG Magazine, School, Fiction, and non-fiction as my collections. I am not sure if there is a limit to the number of collections allowed.

So, the next question. Do you wait? That is entirely up to you. The "rumors" have been saying a front and rear camera, better processor, more memory (both RAM and HDD), and maybe a little more resolution (don't expect Retina Display quality).

Those are my thoughts. Good luck!

No. I think PDF's are a no-go, but video may be able to. Again, I have not tried it though.
