I just got the wifi only version. If I like it I'll be getting a second one and might spring for the 3g model.

I finally had to charge my Kindle again last night for the first time since it's initial charge. I got my Kindle in mid-December and read about 30 minutes a night so I went almost 2 months between charges.

Got a Kindle yesterday for Valentine's Day...it was kinda difficult to decide to pull the trigger and I'm still trying to convince myself that's it'll be okay to not have books sitting on the shelf (taking up space ), but I'm really liking the portability and capability it offers and sure I'm gonna like it once I get used to it.

Welcome to the club! I'll be honest, I love the "smell" of a good book, and I've got plenty of books on the shelf, but I've been reading A LOT more since I've gotten my Kindle. I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

It's a purchase that lasts! Happy reading!

What kind of source file are you converting from?

Though I do admit some of the indie authors have absolutely atrocious formatting. I've helped format a couple of books and it's really not that hard to make a nice looking product. Let me know if you've got any questions, I'm always happy to help with e-reading questions.

I'll definitely recommend jailbreaking the kindle and installing the screensaver hack, it doesn't take long to get sick of staring at those dead authors.

Thanks...actually got to sit down with it last night after work and play with it after it was all charged up. I think I'm really gonna like it, but I'm also thinking it's going to act as an enabler to my reading ADD (i.e. gonna make me wanna be reading more books at a time than I should)...not that that's necessarily a bad thing

Because of LeAnn and MaCruz I just ordered a Kindle WiFi with 3G today. It will arrive tomorrow and I am so excited. First purchase will probably be the NYTimes because right now I'm only able to get the Sunday paper delivered where I live. I'm looking forward to reading again and feel like I just moved into the 21st Century. BTW, I also ordered a leather cover with light and a skin of H.R. Giger art for it too.

I do! I do! I just added all of Jules Verne and Orson Wells and Herman Melville's Moby Dick and it was 2 cents short of $5. This is my first wireless device (only using 3G right now) and so I'm so hooked that I plan to drop AT&T high speed internet service this summer and will go with the ultimate Comcast offering w/WiFi.

You know, I think the thing that really clinched the love for me of the kindle was when I was searching around for my fav series and I found out I could pre-order books to be delivered as soon as they released. THAT was the moment I was like WOW! THIS is PERRRFECT.

Default Newer Kindle gets page numbers

"Kindle users who dislike the popular e-reader's lack of page numbers are getting some relief.

Amazon has added a virtual page number feature on new Kindles that let users pull up numbers that match up with print editions of the book they're reading.

The feature was part of a recent software update and is currently available for the latest generation of Kindles rolled out in August and on Kindle apps for the iPhone, iPad, PC and Mac.

This week, Amazon announced that it's added the feature on more than 10,000 books, including the top 100 sellers in theKindle store.

Because the amount of text on a Kindle page is different than that on a printed book, and can vary more depending on the font size the reader is using, tracking page numbers was difficult.

Users had complained that the lack of numbers made it hard to refer back to something they'd read earlier or to talk about a book with others.

"We wanted to be able to display real page numbers that have value and are useful for those who need to cite a specific passage in a book for class, follow along with their friend in a book club, or simply point a friend to a favorite part of the book," Amazon said in a blog post.

An algorithm was used to create the page numbers, and the data is stored on Amazon's computer storage network. They numbers only appear when the reader presses the "menu" button on the device.

"We want you to lose yourself in the reading," Amazon said on why the page numbers aren't always visible.

An Amazon spokesman said that, "at this time," there's no way to get the feature on older Kindles.

Amazon sold an estimated 8 million Kindles last year, making it the leader in the e-reader market. Last year, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said the online bookseller sold more e-books than hardbacks." [SOURCE: CNN]
