Newbie here, any word on how much, and when Apple will lower the price on the current iPad mini? Is it effective immediately or does Apple usually wait until the new pads hit the shelves.

Nothing surprising with the new iPad. It's got a new name, the iPad Air, and as expected it's thinner and lighter, has a faster processor, and better cameras. It does not have a fingerprint scanner, and it's price will start at $499 like previous models. It will be available on November 1st.
The iPad Mini got retina display and the same processor as the iPad Air. They significantly increased the price, as it's going from a starting price of $329 to a $399 starting price. It will be available in late-November. Last year's iPad Mini's price is being reduced to $299. |

I know I don't say it much but this release is Meh.... and the $399 price tag for a Mini is too much. Might as well get the standard iPad for $100 more whenever it's time to upgrade.
EDIT: What they need to do is fix some of those bugs on iOS 7. Last edited by MaCruz; 10-22-2013 at 06:44 PM. |

I don't know why anyone would even consider buying an iPad 2. It's specs are so outdated and display is so inferior to the other iPads. I could maybe understand people buying it if it was around $250 but if you're getting an iPad save up until you have enough another $100 and get the current model or buy a Mini.

I do not see a reason to upgrade it though. The graphics look fine to me and the speed is okay for me. I don't feel like it's lagging or anything. Now if I saw the new Mini, I'd probably see a difference, but that's not worth my upgrade dollars. |

people go in looking for an ipad (their first one) and they get shown 2 different models. "this is the ipad 2. it has blah, blah blah for specs and has no retina display." "and this is the ipad air. it has blah, blah, blah for specs, retina display, a thinner profile and bezel." it'll push first-time buyers towards the newer version that costs more. marketing genius. |

I think this is a good time to upgrade. It seems like every other model the iPad goes through major upgrades. The iPad 2 wasn't a huge upgrade over the original but the iPad 3 was a major upgrade over the 2 by adding retina display. The iPad 4 wasn't a major upgrade over the 3 but the Air seems like a major upgrade by making it significantly lighter and thinner. If they keep going with that pace it likely means next year's model won't be a major upgrade. It will obviously have a better processor and likely a better camera and fingerprint scanner but odds are it will be the same size as the Air.

One major annoyance with my first gen iPad is that multitasking is impossible. I can't even have more than one tab open in Safari. The pages reload every time I switch from one tab to another. Btw, are you happy with Smart Covers? Are they sturdy when you type? Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk |
