Do any of you guys or gals know if Best Buy takes trade-ins? We have a rear projection Mitsubishi 73" from 2007. It's been a great TV but the DLP chip is going out because we have like 8 black spots popping up so far on the screen.

I'd think it highly unlikely that Best Buy would accept trade-in of a product that I not only think they never sold but which is now discontinued.

I think the prospects for disposal of a seven year-old DLP at this point are limited. Unlike something with better re-sale value, perhaps you can try ebay (for local pickup). There may be someone who wants it for spare parts.

I think they will recycle it for you. I've taken all sorts of TVs and electronics to my BB for recycle. Even console sets which they used to not take specifically.

You may even work it into a haggle... they like to sell stuff.

Just to be clear: There's of course a big diff between recycling and what I think BluPat was asking about, which is getting some value for it in terms of money discounted from something else he wants to get at BB. Haggling to reduce the price of something they sell when they can't recoup that reduction from the manuf of products they don't sell (Mitsu) is not gonna happen IMO.

I suggest checking the Mitsu owners' threads on AVS. PM me if you want more direct linkage.
