Maybe we should ignore all the PS3s that will be unwrapped. I personally don't think standalones on either side are likely to have huge numbers opened on Christmas day, with PS3s and the add-on for the XBOX360 being the kinds of items that are more likely to be purchased as Christmas gifts. The PS3 has been over 150k per week for the US recently and I wouldn't be surprised if 1/3rd or more of those were Christmas gifts. We saw last year that Microsoft sold 92k of the add-ons in the last 6 weeks or so of 2006 according to NPD, yet after Christmas it was Blu-ray that got the big bump in the sales ratio between the formats. This year the PS3 looks like it is selling faster than last year, but not sure the add-on is, given the most recent NPD numbers for it (only around 200k for the whole year).

BTW: I hope the Blu-ray side has some specials on discs in stores the day after Christmas, just as a reminder to those who got a player for the other side for Christmas of what they are missing out on (if they don't have Blu-ray).

I think he ment sink like a rock, because if I received one as a gift I would throw in the nearest lake or ocean.
