its' not just games that it needs to be backwards compatbel with, it's hardware too. If gthere's no backward compatibility, I woudl be forced to keep my PS4 and VR headset. There's no way I'm cramming another machine under my TV, and I'm not getting a ps5 if it means losing everything I have on the ps4, espeically the VR. Headset needs to work with the ps5 as well.
One of the reasons I decided against the Nintendo Switch was becuase it lacked backward compatibility with Wii and WiiU games. Admittedly there were a number of other reasons too in it's case. |

I think from a cost perspective, the PS5 will be just like the PS4. I think the days of creating exotic chips are over. |

After yesterdays reveal, i'm a bit concerned about how Sony handles the BC thema with the PS5.
I went completely digital this generation and if some of my digital library won't be accessable and playable with the PS5, i will consider to switch camps. Xbox series x will be full BC from the first xbox. I'm not even asking anymore for PS1 - PS3 games but PS4 games should be the bare minimum. |

No. The PS3 was a blindingly complex piece of machinery to work with, with a split memory configuration, a dual core CPU and on top of that the Cell processor for offloading rendering tasks. To be able to emulate that on a software level just wasn't possible. I'm 100% sure that Sony tried, but couldn't get it to work.

The PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 software, so this means both physical and digital software will work on the next-gen system. Assuming you're using the same PSN account on PS5, you will have access to all of your PS4 purchases from the PlayStation Store. So I can still play ESO on PS5 and get my ESO Gold.
