I'm sure the manufacturers have a lot to say about it. Naturally they wouldn't want to diminish their profits on newer releases by dropping it too soon, but they want their stuff out for the Holiday buying season. Of course, while they don't want to encourage the physical market, they can't ignore the physical revenue source this gen as much as they'd like to. Next gen will be a different story, if there is no physical option at all. They won't have to fret with pesky things like retail competition, overstock, the used market, BF promos... Prices will be more simply determined by how well it's selling. With digital, the only time the price will drop is when sells fall off at the given price.

Took advantage of this and got Black Ops 4, Forza Horizon 4, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider for $120. Looking over Target's BF ad, getting this same combo of three would still cost $110 on BF. Might as well get them now and beat the rush.

BB and amazon usually have better BF prices on games than Target. That's where all my BF game money usually goes. I think newegg has gotten a piece of it once or twice, but I can't remember getting anything from target other than movies on BF. I assume you're saving the $10 on Tomb Raider, as it's supposed to be $30 at Target come BF, which if past years are any indication, will put the BB price at $25 or maybe even $20. And any deals they have prior to BF, which BB usually starts their promos 1-2 weeks prior to BF, depending on your rewards member status (basic, elite, elite plus), we might get Gamers Club discount on top, for those who still have active GC memberships.

When I started collecting in 1982, It's a Wonderful Life became a keeper for my collection. This classic movie is coming out this Christmas at theatre's with a new 4K master. Perhaps this will be one you'll pick up when it comes to 4K disk. |

I remember those days. I still buy a lot of movies that way, but for me day one game purchasing ended last gen, when developers started seemingly using consumers for their beta testing, shipping essentially unfinished or at least unrefined to the point of breaking, games that by the time they had them "mostly" fixed a year later, there was often a better working, more complete edition available for half the price. The games are a lot less buggy this gen - though playing the PS4 version of Arkham Asylum is rapidly changing my mind on that note, I don't remember the PS3 mechanics being this bad quirky - but I still can't bring myself to reward the current business model of paying more for less, with them withholding parts of the game, exploiting fans like it's some cheap cash-grab, unless you want to get the the season pass, making it what, $80 total? That's just insane to me. I've become much more of a casual gamer as a result this gen, not buying near as much and pinching pennies out of spite for their current business model.
