Default HD camcorder

I've really been wanting a 1080p camcorder for the last year. I would prefer that the camera be super small, but I've decided that I really want one, and don't wanna wait since I can't seem to find one. I don't shop online cause I don't like to use credit cards, so this makes it even more difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good camera that is already out, or that is coming out by summertime?

I don't own one yet, but I've heard the Canon HV20 is the best mid-level HD camcorder on the market today. Amazon has had it for as little as $635, but they just raised the price to $750. The price flucuates, however, and will probably drop down around $500 once the new models come out. This camcorder is only 1080i, but has great PQ from all accounts.

Second the recomendation for Canon HV20. We have one, and it produces excellent quality video. It is still tape-based; though; if you need a hard disc based camcorder Canon also makes the HG10 (I think that's the model #), which is similar but uses HDD and AVCHD codec (the HV20 uses Mpeg2). Sony also makes good camcorders of both types. See camcorderinfo.com for comparisons, reviews, etc.

Thanks for the site.

I'm wanting to get one that does 1080p and accepts an SDHC card. beyond that I don't really care, although a solid state drive would be nice

maybe a while before a true 1080p consumer camcorder is available and it will be pricey at first anyway.

Default Hitachi Blu-Ray Camcorder

Hitachi has a Blu-ray camcorder out. However, I don't think their first generation Blu-ray camcorder received good reviews. They are now working on the next generation. However, if you are curious, see the following link: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...59&dcaid=17902

Definitely pricey, as it's a pro-sumer model, but the Sony FX7 is pretty awesome (1080i).

I personally have Sony's hdr-hc5, which records at 1080i to MiniDV tape. So far I'm happy with it. I believe it can be had for around $800 because new models are on the way.

Only problem, now I have to buy a Blu-ray burner to transfer video to disc. That will be my next toy, when BD drives that burn at 4X-6x are released.

Default New Cannon HG 10 Camera...how to burn discs...?

I just picked up a Cannon HG10 that uses AVCHD and has 1080 capability. Its got an internal hard drive that uses a USB for download.

I have read that AVCHD can be read by Blu Ray, but first I will need to burn a disk. I can't seem to find much about burning discs. I need a new computer, and looking at the Dell site they say their BluRay computers won't burn discs.

Anyone know if there is a trick to burning an AVCHD disc, or will and standard DVD burner create something that will work in Blu Ray?

Thanks!
