Now, I'm waiting on a repairman to show up today... We hooked up our 40-inch LCD back up, and I am going through some serious withdrawals... It's amazing how quickly you get used to that big screen. Having to go back to the "little" TV is quite a downer.

Has anybody had this experience before, and what were the results?
Ha! I did, when my first bulb went out on my Mitsu, while i was waiting for it to arrive, i had to bring a 40" lcd from another room, lets just say thats the least tv i've watched since having one. I literatelly had to put the lcd next to the bed so that i could watch something in it....

I know...I goofed in my post. I meant to say it turns itself off, rather than on (I've edited my post to correct this). Sorry for the typo, but I do appreciate the reply.

Apparently the problem was due to a defective bulb (I say defective because I'm thinking these bulbs should have a longer shelf-life than about two weeks). Got the bulb replaced, and it's all back to normal, good as new.

Thumbs up complaining weenie!!!

What a complaining weenie!! My mitsubishi lcd 52" has run strong and has had a phenominal picture for 2 years strong-- this op experience is coincidental; his bulb went out when warranty was out by coincidence. That is no reason to complain and down a good co. especially when you can just replace the bulb!! thats it just buy a bulb and its like new not so bad --mitsubishi is a great tv!! and id buy another --

I have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP and have had no problems at all. I don't use it daily, as I do a lot of regular viewing upstairs on a smaller set. The room with the 65" is more or less a dedicated theater room so it's black (bulb brightness looooow) and the room stays virtually dust free.

let me say this, do you have any idea how many 25" zenith console tv's are still working? they are at least what, 25 year old tv's? and i had to replace the bulb on this tv 14 months later? at $250 a bulb? all i can say is i will no longer be purchasing any of their products.

every so often i keep getting the amber light signal, and a message on screen that something is blocking the intake vent. i have never been so pissed in my life, when i first bought this tv i raved about it. the picture quality was awesome. my friends and family were impressed. but no more Mitsubishi for me.
one of my coworkers asked for advice, i told him mitsubishi dlp was the way to go, he bought a 50" dlp. guess what? not even ayear after he had his he had to replace his bulb. but it was under warranty so he got new bulb replacement for free. this kind of coincedence with their bulbs is a little upsetting to say the least.
i really find it hard to believe that i have to pay $250 a year to watch tv( replacing freakin bulbs) when there are litterally thousands of people with their trusty 25" console tv's still working after 25 years or more......

so no thank you mitsubishi, anyone reading this and contemplating getting one of their tv's, better rethink their decision,

feel free to contact me
Obviously there are several factors that effect how long your lamp will last......but remember this is a LAMP.......easily replaced......then you have a new TV again! My SXRD lamp should have cost $300, but I got a spare off of e-bay brand new for $60........score! Try onecall.com.......there bulbs are resonable. Rear projection tv's give you a great detailed high definintion picture with the loved "film look", so if you can, hold on to the one you have! I went shopping for subwoofers today, and someone brought up a great point........the industry is SO FOCUSED ON THE "VISUAL" aspect these days, that all of the manufacturers are competing for the best "PICTURE QUALITY, that they have almost forgotten about getting it right first before implementing all of this EXTRA stuff (led,120HZ etc)Just because it's a Mitsubishi, that is no reason to hate them......your just upset about a bulb replacement. If you really want to complain......think about this, I have an SXRD, one of the best looking RPTV's EVER.......and now my optical block is going out.......so you want to trade tv's?.......didn't think so.

I know this thread has been mostly about bulb problems with Mits, but I am wondering if anyone has some insight into the problem I am having. I have a WD-65737 this is less than 1.5 years old. For the second time, following a power outage, I cannot get my TV to power on. We have the TV plugged into a surge protector and nothing else on the surge strip is having a problem. When I push the power button, the green light blinks for 2 or 3 seconds then switches... off. I have tried the reset (pushing power button for 10 seconds) and unplugging set entirely for 30 mins with no success. We did get it running again after the last time it did this, but no luck this time. We have not been having any other problems with the pic, or turning itself off, or blinking lights. Any suggestions? This is very frustrating!!

I am not able to answer your question but i will make a recommendation. if your DLP works anything like my SXRD then you should have a UPS connected to the DLP set. i have one connected to my SXRD because when it's shut off either intentionally or accidentally (it can't tell) it needs to have a fan run to cool the lamp down and that taks between 15 - 45 seconds depending on how long you had the set on and how hot the lamp is; it usually takes 25 seconds on mine.

if i have a loss of utility power, with the UPS i can wait about 30 seconds and see that the outage is gonna last then turn the set off and let the fan cycle normally this way the lamp doesn't get compromised. if those lamps aren't cooled down properly they will form condensation on them from the radical difference in their temperature and the ambient temperature and that can and will cause damage to the lamp and it will shorten the lamps life as well.

another thing that falls along the same lines is the SXRD (not sure about DLP) it tells you in the manual not to turn it off then try to turn it right back on because you won't get any picture (the lamp cool down cycle) and you will have to wait until it cycles.

I highly recommend everyone with either a DLP or SXRD set have small UPS's connected to their sets for those reasons. it doesn't need to be a giant UPS either just one big enough to handle the tv so that the lamp can get cooled down properly during losses of utility power.

i do hope your issue with your DLP gets resolved.

please keep us posted!

Anyone hear if Mitsu has any plans to adopt the LED DLP tech that Samsung so unceremoniously dropped 2 years ago? I have a 61"version of that set and it's amazing, but i'd like to think that in 5-10 years when it's time to move on that i'd have the opportunity to upgrade to a 70"+ set and Mitsu is the only affordable solution on that front. Seems it's now a niche market and i see no reason why Mitsu wouldn't want to improve/expand it in whatever way possible. If you want big, but don't have the budget or room for a nice front projector or high end plasma, these DLP sets are really the tits.

Thanks Solarrdadd! That is excellent advice and I can see where it would help prolong the life of the bulb.

Our TV was off when the power outage happened, so at least for this time the bulb cooling was not an issue. I do appreciate your suggestion though!

I think that's one my parents have. I know it is a 65" Mist DLP. Same problem. The TV is just over 2 years old. Doesn't work. It was plugged into a power strip too.

have you contacted Mits to see what they have to say? also, if the tv is out of warranty it might be worth your while to spend the money and have it checked in home say by someone like Geek Squad or someone that's Mits Authorized just to know what is wrong and how much it might cost to have it fixed. asking around the net or sitting around waiting for a response from said asking might turn out to be a dead end. have it checked and then you will know where you stand.

please keep us posted.

Smile DLP's

That's the reason I went Plasma...The bulb factor $$$.$$...Sure don't get me wrong their a great picture for how long: 6-month's or 12-monthes till it blows or sometimes longer...But I will say this Mit's has the best Customer Servive because when the video card took a dump and they couldn't replace it asap they replaced my DLP with the newer model...I was very satified and impressed with the service, but I didn't want to deal with the bulb thing and so I gave it to my pop's to deal with, but hey, brand new in the box and so far he's had no problem's yet till the bulb blow's and then he'll probaly give me a call...Remember how long the CRT last's(eternity)...To bad they can't make dlp bulbs to last like that...

I've had mine since late 2007 and I haven't had to replace the bulb yet, still looks great (when the room is dark), but I do think I will move on to plasma for my next TV.

Mitsubishi has LaserVue, I doubt they will ever try to adopt LED DLP technology. I wish they would just come down in price on those LaserVues though.

my 65736 is doing just fine (knock on wood), 1450hrs now. i watch it everyday now. since my toshiba 32" lcd died at 14moths old (its is now fixed and in the dining room).

everything has a different lifespan. i have had 3 (or more) crt's die on me.

you guys need to keep in mind, that nothing these days is designed to last very long. except for, perhaps, speakers. heck, even my EMOTIVA XPA-3 died at 21 months old.
