Default Funny HD DVD strat to win a week:

There is talk over on AVS about buying the Harry Potter movies individual. This will have a 5 to 1 ratio vs. Blu buyers that purchase the gift set.

I wonder...even with that ratio - would they win that week?

The box set should still count as 5, not 1. Am I wrong?

And no. They won't win. They couldn't win 4q sales with what's coming out for us.

i don't think its desperate i already own the first movie so i don't want the set , and i don't like the packaging of it i would rather have a normal looking box set then the gift one if i was going to buy it.

in closing its more AVS retartedness then desperation.

even if they win a week it wouldnt make a difference anyways but most people are buying WB movies on Blu-Ray not Hd-Dvd so really we have that week not Hd-Dvd

What i mean for desperation is that, they will do anythign to try and win a week on the nielsen numbers, since i guess that's all that matters to them, they have nothing left, but a few thoudsand outdated players to brag about.

HDDVD fanboy: Dude put your HDDVD on i want to order some toilet paper.

HDDVD fanboy2: hell yeah man hold on, i have to boil the disc up, i dunno why is not working, but i read on AVMS that this will fix it. (Shouts MOMMMMM can i use your preassure cooker.

WB would see through the bs, though. If the ratio was 5:1 HDDUD, WB execs will still look at the box set as a five disc sale, not 1. It only makes sense to see it this way. Just take the number of sets sold and multiply it by 5 and presto! Blu ray won't lose the software lead it's maintained all year. Just look at Transformers.

The people at WB are the ones doing the counting. They clearly understand the boxset as an equivalent to 5 individual sales.

Another lame attempt by the uneducated HD-DVD camp.

It acutally hurts them in the long run as boxsets with "extras" (read: upsells) are the things all studios are looking at to reinvigorate stagnating DVD packaged media sales. More Blu-ray boxset sells is therefore a plus for the format.

I actually feel sorry for those HD-DVD fanboys attemping such a pathetic attempt.... eventually they'll give into blu and realize how stupid they were to ever invest on HD-DUD.

thing is that hd dvd has already blown its wad so to speak. they have HP 1-4, batman begins, the matrix trilogy, and all the other WB titles that have been held back from blu ray AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T WON A WEEK. since most people who want the HP movies have already bought 1 - 4 they will only be buying 5. that's most people. there are some who will double dip to get the set and some others who haven't bought any of the yet.

hd dvd supporters can try whatever they want. but it will still count for nothing. in the end they are just wasting their time, money, and space in their ht system.

HP 1-4 aren't out on HD DVD. HP 4 was released in the UK, so some may have imported that, but the others weren't released anywhere, and I doubt many bothered importing. They're pretty much in the same boat we are with those titles.

There are a lot of people already buying the singles since they don't want inconsistent packaging. Another hair-brained scheme.

Maybe they should buy the Die Hard movies as singles as well? Oops! That's right, the Die Hard movies are only on Blu-ray.

Myself, I'm getting the singles of the movies from the Warner store (used the 25% off coupon). The box set is nice but I wanted the consistant packaging for the movies and don't have space for the "suitcase" in my entertainment unit.

I just got an email today from Warner saying they're backordered . . . hopefully this isn't an issue by the time they're released.

Depends on whose counting, but as far as the Nielsen/Videoscan ratio that HMM publishes every week, I am just about positive that a box set counts as 1. That is also true for Planet Earth, TV shows, etc. And HD DVD had the disadvantage of that with the Matrix sets, but it cuts both ways (the box set of Spider-man should count as 1 in the ratio we will get next Friday).
