Someone mentioned they thought Edge of the Axe was a TV movie - was it?

Even though I still think January was a very limited announcement month, I'm pretty excited to see this. Haven't seen a new slasher in a little bit.

I had a Danish prerecorded VHS of it. It was in the 90s so I dont recall much. I dont recall much gore though. I hope it's letterboxed. I can't recall if the VHS was. His style is quite visual and the colors he chooses for each scene really add to his films, so VHS is not a good way to see any of them. I must admit I did really like the longer version of the House that Vanished even though it was pan and scan. I doubt there was any more violence, but I think there was more trying to find the house and other things. I haven't watched that since the 90s though, so my memory of it isn't great.

I though Arrow was planning to release this along with Rest in Pieces and Black Candles for a second box. I guess they changed their mind. It may be because these films arent really strong like Symptoms, Whirlpool, Vampyres or if it is ever found, Deviation.

Gonna take a chance on this as a blind buy, pre ordered from Diabolik like I do with all my Arrow titles.

The artwork on this is incredible. Justin Osbourn is such an amazing artist.

I was under the impression Savage Lust was one of the titles. Supposedly there are restored clips of it on the previous Larraz set, so I imagine that one is still coming as a standalone at a some point.

Had no clue Edge of the Axe was made for TV and it doesn't matter. I thought it was a great slasher and anyone not purchasing it for those reasons is missing out. Your loss amigo!

The quality on the transfers aren't very good, but if you like Larraz you should pick up the double feature blu-ray of Emma, puertas oscuras and Estigma. The former is a proto-slasher and the latter is a great film led by a brooding psychotic teenager.

Evil Eye was released on DVD by Deimos but is rare I had it in the Horror South of the Border box (which makes no sense regarding Larraz). It also had Estigma. I made a copy on a hard drive ( haven't come across it since) and sold the set for about $150. No blu of Evil Eye that I am aware of. I saw Emma in the 90s in Spanish with no subtitles and liked it. I picked up the blu when I saw it. It is a limited edition, and probably the first good subtitled copy (compared to the VHS fan dubbed bootlegs), so if you like his work (i love Symptoms, Whirlpool, Vampyres and what i recall of Deviation) you should grab it before it disappears.

Second that. I've been absolutely in love with Justin's work from day one, no matter what "they said" about him. Christ how I wish that Arrow could been used his art in their release of An American Werewolf in London.

The problem I have with his work is that the composition and use of colour is often very samey. When he does something different, though, as he's done with Edge of the Axe, it really shines.

The only difference is the “It takes a lot of guts to make a movie like this” banner on the slip which is a nice touch as it was originally on the VHS.

Odd that Diabolik removed from their listing that the slip is limited to 500. It was listed yesterday.
