Default When Is "The Simpsons" Too Much?

I need some opinions: I'd like to start purchasing "The Simpsons" season sets on DVD and/or Blu-ray when and where possible. While I don't need every single season, I'd like to ask fans this:

In your opinion, which season does "The Simpsons" start to -- more or less -- suck, starts getting old, loses it's luster, etc.

Sure, the older episodes enjoyed great stories and great guest voice appearances like Patrick Stewart and many, many more.

Please contribute. Thanks!!!

Personally, I haven’t been keeping up with the on-air eps, but have been keeping up with the discs. And while the show is certainly wearing down in the latest seasons (on DVD), there are still enough strong eps and funny moments to make them all worth picking up IMHO. But we’re definitely in “some lame episodes” and “for sure not as great as its heyday” territory. But yeah, DVDs are on 19 (or 20 counting that weird set) and TV is up to 3...4? So I’m sure there’s a “not worth the purchase” point on the horizon, but for my money, there’s still enough laughs that we’re not quite there yet.

Also worth noting that season 1 before they find their footing is pretty weak.

Season 9. Still some okay stuff there but it’s a steep decline afterward.

I’d say started to decline around ‘98 or so.

gI cannot remember when I stopped watching TS. I'll say every '90s season is the golden age Simpsons. I fondly remember crying laughing doing this era. It was everything you wanted a show to be. Just a warning that the further you get, the less funny and memorable the series gets.

Yeah, the tricky part is that it's a slow decline, so it's tough to say where the line between worth it/ not worth it is.

Probably downhill after the first 10 years. Certainly by the time of the movie, which I just looked up was season 18, it was all over and I barely watched the show. Like others, I can't remember when exactly I didn't mind missing an episode, but it was before the movie came out I'm pretty sure.

I tend to think the quality years was when Phil Hartman was around. His last episode is in S10 but that one was banked from S9.

2-10 is TV gold

Season 1 Is okay but not peaked, and 11 is where it really goes off the rails and starts having only a few quality episodes a season for as long as I can remember

Idk that I'd buy them when disney+ is so cheap even brand new in worse DVD quality it would take over 2 years of monthly disney+ to spend what it would cost to buy just 1-10 on disk

Post Season 10 there's still some good episodes but the seasons themselves aren't consistent. You still get great a bunch of great episodes through Season 12, like "A Tale of Two Springfields (12x02) and HOMR (12x09). Season 14 is pretty much as far as I'll go, but "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation" (14x02) is still as good as the earlier episodes to me (the rest of the season, not so much)

Im a hardcore old school fan and i think there are enough good episodes to make it worth owning up to season 13 or so. I just bought seasons 11 and 12 on ebay to round out my collection.

FYI its pretty easy to find someone selling a whole set of seasons 1-10 or 1-12 on ebay in very good or like new condition. Its a good time to buy them since they could very well stay out of print.

I also think of it like this. The new group of characters who replaced the Hartman characters were all worthless.

I stopped collecting the DVD sets at Season 10. A nice even number and the series "ends" with Godzilla's roar.

It’s fantastic up through season 9. Hit or miss starts spreading from there and gets worse as it goes.
