Yesterday I went to 2 DT but bought nothing; almost no blu ray found on both locations.

My store had only 3 BD's. One was Echo Bridge, the Spanish One Direction (2D), and Paranormal Activity 3. I got the last one only. For the 2 disc case, and potential 4K upgrade on iTunes at some point

Has there been a wave this year? What was the last official wave as indicated on a DT receipt?

No. The November Black Friday was the last "wave" that was widely distributed across the country.

828706547663 - MOVIE NIGHT PDQ 2022 DVD/BR A

There may have been isolated boxes that went out to select stores. I periodically check a group of stores while out on errands and I have asked a few managers. Not one box of movies has arrived at any of those stores since November. I would expect this to be true in most of the country.

Thanks! Maybe they really are out of the DVD business now.

I can't imagine anyone was making much of a profit at $1 to $1.25 per movie.

I don't think that was the goal. How many here have severely reduced their other D25T purchases due to no new drops? The movies were enticement. With no new drops, there is little reason for most of us to check-in and impulse buy whatever items. If there really is new management at corporate, I bet some new C-suite noticed that the movies were a loss leader, and that shouldn't fly at D25T. So they axed it, not realizing the profit that was generated by people like us coming in and buying a whole bunch of other junk.

Last year's Q1 compared to this year's Q1, I have spent 1/10 of the money at D25T. I also don't go in every week anymore. If they are doing this on purpose, they'll get the message real quick. Probably this morning, since it's the end of Q1.

I don't get the impression that the movies were driving much traffic. I think it was the other way around. People who were there shopping for food or whatever would see the movies and maybe grab a couple.

I made a trip to four stores, but it seems I might've already been late as they were almost completely wiped from movies. At one I found Act of Valor blu-ray, but it was opened. And that was one of five movies available. Five!

I plan on going to jackpot store next week, but if I see it wiped out, I will be shocked because that store has hundreds of movies.

I do wonder what happened to the movie stock from Fry's. And the one from all the Big Lots closing. Shouldn't they make their way to DqT?

Fry's? Haven't they been closed for at least 5 years?

I agree with this. In 2022 when new movies were put out on the table or endcap, occasionally other people would look for a few minutes and usually leave without buying any movies. This year when I go I seem to be the only person who checks the movies. I don't think movies ever were the primary driver of traffic and I doubt they'd notice much difference if they stopped selling them completely.

Today I spoke to my manager friend. His opinion is this is just a thinning and stores might get movies again in the future. As I posted earlier, I think it really depends on corporate being able to buy enough overstock movies cheap enough to be worthwhile trying to ship to and sell at stores. In this economy, movie overstock is scarce and everything more expensive making future movie deals less likely. Maybe they'll get some new movies each November for Black Friday?

Honestly, it's been at this store for several months, but I just now noticed that it isn't listed on this site.
I found a copy at one of the Atlanta area stores and immediately grabbed it when I saw it

I went to 3 stores, and asked every person waiting on me if they were permanently getting rid of the movies. All of them more or less said this sale is designed to get rid of all these excess discs they haven't been able to, and that there should be future shipments. I saw one sign in 3 stops.

Fact is whether DTs get more shipments or not, the days of finding good titles there is over. As others have mentioned here and in other threads, publishers now are incredibly good at measured inventory with most retailers no longer carrying stock at B&M stores. Moreover, and as a result of the new normal for selling at retail, many publishers have moved onto direct to consumer models (e.g., Shout, Kino, Gruv, etc.)

What this means is little to no excess inventory for discount chains like DTs and Five Belows to buy. It's just the new reality of the physical media landscape. Unfortunately, this means you're going to pay more for this stuff. Fewer and fewer big discounts as all of this gets more and more niche.
