Default I'm the proud owner of a Wii U now!

My local Fry's Grocery Store was selling ALL there video game stuff for 50% off the other day, just to get rid of it. Well they had already slashed prices by 50% and then they took off ANOTHER 50%! I got the Mario & Luigi Deluxe 32Gb bundle sealed brand new for $75!!!

I haven't even opened it yet, but thought maybe I would ask you guys about accessories/games you recommend. We all know Nintendo has the SECOND best exclusive line up(Kudos Sony ) so other than the given games i.e. Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros. what 3rd party games do you guys like? Also can you use 2 of the screen controllers at the same time? I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere, so how would you get another one?

Get some pro controllers if you can! Makes everything better! Hyrule Warriors and Zelda Windwaker are an immediate must!

Add me to the list of new Wii U owners. Can't believe I did it, but I ordered one from their site (refurb) for $235 out the door (overnight shipping, hope it's quick).

Went ahead and utilized the buy two get one at Target, so I got MK8, SM3DW, and DKCTF for a whopping $100 out the door. Gotta say I'm stoked! But I feel guilty for spending so much today. Oh well, it was my birthday lol.

There's a demo on the eShop if you're still sceptical about it.

I'm playing mine more than ever. Hyrule Warriors, Aria of Sorrow, Earthbound, Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker are keeping my system on almost constantly. Once Toad comes out I may never be seen again.

Happy birthday!

I just picked up my MK8 bundle from Walmart. After crunching the numbers of the different options this was definitely the cheapest option for the games I want to play.

About to order some pro controllers and eagerly await having pizza & Mario Kart night Friday with my friends and family

I thought Frys was a grocery store a long long time ago.

I got the old Wii with 4 controller, 4 steering wheels, and 2 nunchucks for $15 at a garage sale about a year ago... My kids love it and it's the only system that gets used. Can't remember the last time I dug the PS3 out of storage.

Congrats to everyone who just got a Wii U. I'm also a new adopter. Got it for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, so, sorry, can't recommend anything beyond the obvious (though, I'll second the suggestion of downloading the GBA Castlevanias for the virtual console--they're top notch). Personally, I really like the system. I'm not a gamer, but I'm hardcore in my enthusiasm for the games I do play. That may explain why I still stick with Nintendo, even after the company has relegated itself to the casual/family market.

Finally, we can see our fav Nintendo characters in HD. The gamepad is nifty. I mean it. I'm not sure if Xbox and Playstation controllers can now be used as TV remotes, but I thought it was really cool that the gamepad synced to my TV within moments--no inputting endless codes to get the damn thing to work. It's also a cool feature being able to switch between the television screen and the gamepad. Of course, there are downsides. If it breaks, it's a much more expensive replacement than a regular controller. Also, battery life.

Was it worth upgrading my Wii? Well, we'll see. There's still plenty of time left in this console cycle.

There's better games than DKC:TF on the Wii U. And I'd certainly not put DKC:TF on my Top 10 of Wii U games (unless in a negative aspect).

I've seen a kiosk Wii U GamePad hit the floor countless times and to this day it still works perfectly, then again, Nintendo focuses on how to make sure their products survive on the hands of kids.

And as for the battery, you can upgrade if you want.

More accurately, four to five years left for the Wii U but as far as we know there aren't any exclusives announced beyond 2015, hopefully they're not planning to give up before the 7 year lifespan Nintendo consoles normally have.

Isn't it "normally" 5 years, with the Wii given a unique 7 year lifespan?

The Wii/PS3/360 gen was indeed an anomaly and longer than usual.

NES: 1983-2003 (20 years -- Japan) / 1985-1995 (10 years -- International)
SNES: 1990-2003 (13 years -- Japan) / 1991-1999 (8 years -- International)
N64: 1996-2003 (7 years)
NGC: 2001-2007 (6 years)
Wii: 2006-2013 (7 years)

So Nintendo has their own tendency of making their consoles last about 6-7 years per console generation.

It's quite interesting that NES, um, Famicom lasted for 20 years that's a really long lifespan!

Those overlapping years don't count. It's from the time that the console comes on the market until the time the new console comes out.

So it was from 2006 until 2012 which is 6 years just one year less.

Wii U's big year was 2014 and it's ending but at least with Smash it'll be worth it for years to come.

They were still releasing games for the Famicom through 2003?
