i had the iphone 6+ (and the 3g, 4, and 5, before that) and i currently have the galaxy s8+. i like both the iphone and the galaxy. but i like the galaxy just a little better. there's nothing wrong with the iphone (that i've found). and i never had any issues with any iphone i had; aside from when i dropped my 6+ and the screen separated from the back, but that was my fault and the phone continued to work flawlessly despite that happening. granted, i haven't used any of the versions after the 6 since that was the last one i had. so i can't give any true up-to-date information regarding any of the new ones. but from what i've heard from people that own them (my sister and youngest niece being 2), they like them. but one reason i got away from apple and went to google is due to both wanting something different and the price. my galaxy was about the same price is my 6+. and it was almost 4 years newer then the iphone. i've never had any issues with it, either, whether it be software or physical (i use otterbox defender cases for all my phones). |

Bumping an old thread. Any thoughts on Google phones like the $350 Pixel? Coming from a 4 year old Samsung that's getting slower and has several screen cracks. Kind of tired of leasing phones and am thinking of just buying one.
Also, how is the experience of going from a more traditional carrier to a pre-paid plan? |

I'd go to a prepaid carrier that is on the network you already use, especially if this is a remote rural area that is known for having good reception/data speeds on one network but not on other networks.
Most of the prepaid carriers have intro rates you can use as a trial run so to speak, so if you ever run into reception issues on a prepaid carrier but not the name brand carrier, you can just switch back and not be out too much money. T-Mobile: Mint Mobile (unlimited or limited) AT&T: Cricket (limited) StraightTalk (unlimited) Verizon: Visible (unlimited, especially for family plans/"party pay" they call it) Sprint/Boost/Virgin Mobile: don't! And RedPocket is a good carrier if you want to choose which network. I have no experience with RedPocket but they're well regarded on sd. They have the cheapest plans on all of the networks. StraightTalk also has plans on all networks. There are also deals at the prepaid carriers, so you don't always have to shell out full price for a new phone. They'll lock you in for a few months before you can unlock your phone. A good example is Cricket, an iPhone SE (2020) for $49.99, you'd be locked in for 6 months and you have to be a new customer. (cricket only offering deals for new customers is one reason I left to Mint) For some it makes sense to pay more to have an unlocked phone and not deal with the hassle. |

![]() I can't say anything regarding the prepaid plans as I'm a loyal Verizon customer. They're the only carrier that works in my area. |

And Samsung phones take better pictures than iPhones ...
![]() If I was to buy a new phone I would get one with the best cameras, the largest storage (for family pics and HDR home made videos), the biggest RAM avail, the strongest Wi-Fi reception, and best bulletproof. ![]() Go with the best ecosystem you're familiar with. * This forum section is not too busy. |

depends on your need of course. I personally got myself an iPhone 12 pro 256gb. the camera is a bomb, this storage is enough for me, audio and screen quality is great. however, the price is crazy, not for everyone((

I think my best option after looking at everything is to get the S21+ 5G. Sure I lose .1" and the S Pen but I can live without those things. $16 monthly payments + $25 a month Kickstart (if possible) would mean I'm getting a brand new 5G phone that's almost the exact same size as the phone I have now and paying just $1 more a month. Works for me and is a lot more reasonable than getting a Flip 3(what's the point of a phone that flips lol) or the severely overpriced Fold 3. Last edited by Batman1980; 08-24-2021 at 11:52 PM. |
