Interesting.

I think the bias of the site is apparent by their reporting of the NPD data - ie they quote the only numbers that favour HD DVD and not the revenue or last six weeks numbers that favour Bluray.

Default Hmmm....

I find it difficult to believe they can get a four plus hour movie onto a 30 GB drive without sacrificing something (PQ, sound, etc.) even using VC-1.

But we'll see soon enough.

that is based on the assumption that it is truly an HD-DVD version of LOTR. i did pop my LOTR into the sammy and did some playing and it had what might be considered a similar picture.

to me, from the look of it, that isn't even in original aspect ratio. so, are they using a fullscreen version of LOTR? if so, they are idiots. no one in their right mind should have a full screen video out of a HD device onto a WS t.v.

i don't want to jump to be too critical, but we (at least me) also haven't heard of any development of the trilogy onto a high def format. so if nothing else, we're just dealing with lots of speculation vs. actual proof.

to true. it could just be the dvd and not an hd dvd. i just found it interesting that something advertised as hddvd would be showing a video (or screen shot)that wasnt.

i hope its not hddvd only.
its a new line cinema movie if im not mistaking. where do they stand?

no idea, but if it is only hd-dvd i will be pissed and pretty much boycott the whole HD thing until that crap would be resolved.

yeah. joystiq is def biased. they seem to hate the ps3, or just post negative messages about it. Even if they post something positive, its tainted with some sort of negative BS to get the fanboys in an uproar. the HDDVD/blu ray debate is the same in that respect.

obviously, if true it is great. however, i will not be in the first buying group if it's not the EE

also, they better have different encodes for BR and hd-dud to take advantage of the space differences and bandwidth

No-sell, I don't want the theatrical version, it doesn't really make sense if you haven't read the book, and they miss out too many important scenes, and leave in silly ones, do I really want to see Strider talking to Arwen, no I don't.

Crikey.

I'll rather have the extended edition. This is one movie that can take advantage of the BD-50 disc.

Us BD fans are definitely going to be short changed by Warner/New Line, they will give us the same low bitrate rubbish they have to give HD DVD, and we will get no extras, but there will be 20GB unused on the disc as usual. The sooner HD DVD dies, the sooner we can get properly optimised films. For me that can't happen quickly enough.

wouldn't be suprised if they do end up stating that they will be releasing the extended edition as this is one of the most capable movies of really showing the blu-ray format off with a flawless 1080p transfer and superb audio.

i'm not an auidophile so i wouldn't know what audio codecs or what not they should use, i guess i'll leave that to you guys to say

For all of us in the UK, there is not much hope as Entertainment In Video, the New Line DVD distributor has not chosen a side yet, so no New Line movies until they do. We could of course get they crappy THD discs from Warner, but I will take my chances with EIV.

Default Any News on Lord of the Rings Trilogy on BR?

Im going crazy ova here. Just got my HDTV about 3 months ago, and some movies look good while oters look grainy.

Lord of the Rings looks very grainy, and its disrupting me wanting to view the movie on my HDTV.

Any news to when they might release the extended trilogy on Blu-Ray?
