Its going to hurt - a lot - but I'm thinking I'll be waiting for the EE.

The easy solution would be to rent the theatrical version for now and purchase the EE when available.

I'm going to buy it, at least the first one. Vote with your dollars and show them you want these movies on BD. BD is going to have to be much closer to beating HD-DVD permanently before we see the "neutral" studios putting in the extra work to take advantage of BD capacity and higher bitrates.

Wouldn't be the first time I've bought (almost) the same movie more than once.

The theatrical cut for FOTR and ROTK is not bad. The EE cut of FOTR and TT is great. EE ROTK could use a little bit of trimming, IMO.

But I'd buy the theatrical and EE once again!

As much as it pains me, if they release these on separate BD and HD-DVD discs I will have to purchase the BD versions to show that BD is leading the way in sales. If it is THD discs, then I will wait until HD-DVD goes away, and then they will release the EEs on BD-50s.

Im going to wait. Im suprised by this. I saw an interview with Peter Jackson on ign a while ago and he mentioned that LOTR HD will be the extended versions. It makes no sense other then double dipping (again) to do otherwise.

Well the studio execs have decided differently. This way the fanboys will buy both and they'll get more profit.

I'll pass. I'll definitely rent to see it, but if I am buying I want the extended edition. I already have it on DVD, and don't want to setle for less in hidef..

Same here.

Believe me, it's going to be tempting, but I've waited this long I can wait just a wee bit longer to finish it right.

From a business perspective this makes perfect sense for New Line. Release a bare bones edition now in THD and wait for a winner to be determined then release a fully loaded EE.

After seeing the extended edition I will not watch or buy the theatrical version. BD or not.

yeah the EE is way better. In regards to what peter jackson says it won't have much impact with new line as they are highly pissed at him right now and he doesn't own the rights anyways.

These better be on both formats not this TotalHD nonsense. Also, eff the theatrical, give us the Extended Editions.

It has to be the highest end for me (Extended Editions).

Otherwise, no sale.
