Default "Slim" The Lord of the Rings SteelBook™(Not an Official Release)

Here's what I came up with, by just using the original packaging the Steelbook came with. All I need is a spine, but I'll leave that to the experts on here.

I agree at $5 I'm definitely experimenting with this steelbook.

Does anyone know where I can find the 3-disc plastic white insert.
I have a spare Snow white steelbook (does it have 3 or 2 discs....hmmmm)

Well, I gotta hand it to the OP for creativity.

However, as this is a TRILOGY, as others have said, the entire BD release will not fit in this case.

Therefore, despite the effort, I would have to rename this steebook title to:

"Lord of the Wrongs."

I'm guessing he probably picked up 3 ($15 total) and as long as he has enough cases to switch them all over he can have 1 for each film. Then he can create 3 different spines for each and have a nice, uniform looking set.

Actually, since the spines have to be printed, why not do 3 slim versions and have each spine printed with the title of each movie. The inside could have artwork exclusive to each film, and only the outer covers would be identical. I don't think that would be so wrong. All three spines could also be printed up with something that ties all three of them together, like a background shot of The Ring.

Personally, if I was going to convert some, I'd go with 2 disc inserts since the digital copy disc will be useless once it's used.

LOL, way to much over thinking about how I'm going to store the discs.
They will come in a Amaray case when I pick them up from Best Buy.

Anyways, I did this just to "slim it down" so it looks better next to my other Steelies.

But mr. b has a great idea in making all three different spines for each movie, so I'll just have to make two more.

Thx mr. b

No prob' Money. I think if you can get a quality scan of the front cover, you could use it as a backdrop across all three spines, stretched vertically from the top of the first one, to the bottom of the last film, and have the titles laying over the artwork. I'm still waiting to see what the German SteelBooks are going to look like before I decide which one I want. If I do go with the US SteelBook, I'll most likely do 3 of 'em as well.

Maybe someone can explain to me why you would want to slim a steelbook? I mean it looks cooler than the 'fatty,' but you basically have destoryed any value it might have had. To me it's like rebuilding a classic car but putting the wrong engine in it, it basically kills the collector value. I see so many people talking about having steelbooks on the hopes of one day having a rare pricey item like Ironman, IAL, etc, but if you mod it it no longer has any value.

Yeah that's why I did because it looks cooler than a "fatty", as for value it was a $5 Steelie not John Rambo!

Good thing I collect them for fun not value.

If you were planning on opening the jumbo steelbook itself, be it UP, Monsters Inc, or LOTR, then you're really not going to destroy the value of this steelbook. Removing the front and back panel is quite easy, and honestly, putting it back on is easy too. If you're careful, you wouldn't damage the jumbo. You're not removing the spine at all, so that stays attached, and you can keep the jumbo without the front and back in a box, to be put back together. But honestly, is the value really ruined? Maybe it would be worth more to some people... never saw one listed on ebay, so I would't know.

On the other hand, sure, you're losing the value of the snow white or whichever empty case you're using. If there was damage to the steel, you're not losing much. But if you're worried about the value, then you wouldn't even be opening a steelbook, as it's going to lose value right away.
