True, but they will be supporting both formats.

Regardless of supporting both, this bodes well for LOTR

Yeah. Except you know it has to be two discs for HD DVD, and the "neutrality" won't allow Warner to put it on one BD-50.

Warner could wait an put it on two Total HD. The single BD layer nature of the initial Total HD would be their excuse.

Of course it would. The data on the discs would be equal and that's good enough.

And Warner has no say, New Line operates independantly from them when it comes to their video releases. That's why they were able to dump the snapper, and why NL has DTS tracks when Warner refuses to.

They're starting to ditch combo disks, surely they're not going to move on to Total HD? The idea is pretty much dead if you ask me.

I wasn't aware they were that independant. That's reassuring.

I really really want P.T. Andersons films: Magnolia, Boogie Nights, and Punch Drunk Love... he is one of the best directors working today...

Yea the Total HD is all but dead at this point I think so we can pretty much count that out. It is definately reassuring to hear that New Line operates with that much idependance from Warner, I would have assumed that was not the case. And yes Boogie Nights would be a sweet release.

When did they decide to put it on two HD DVDs? They're only releasing the theatrical so one disc should have enough room. Or is the second disc for extras only? I'd rather have two Blu-ray discs instead of one. Feels like I'd be getting a better deal.
