Default Local Blockbuster spreading FUD and scaring customers

So I was in Blockbuster and asked the girl at the counter to call a Blu-Buster and ask if they had a certain title on Blu-ray. after the call, she looks at this scripted piece of paper and reads to me looking up and down...

"Did you know that Blu-ray is the new DVD?"
"All Blockbusters will be replacing DVDs with Blu-Ray discs" (scaring the people into needing a PS3 which she had on-hand)

some other lady asked, what's the difference and to her the employee replied...

"The only real difference is that they are scratch resistant"

I told both that there was a lot more to it than that and explained the capacity, etc. and that standard DVDs look like garbage on a large TV where Blu-Ray was far better visually.

They both looked at me as if I was some sort of rocket scientist and I am sure they had no idea what the f I was saying.

Blockbuster is supposed to clearance out their HD-DVDs for $4.99 as well according to the employee and will soon all be carying Blu-Rays nationwide by next month.

Well at least she got it right and didn't say "Did you know HD DVD is the new DVD"

And you're surprised that the person working at Blockbuster doesn't know the movie business?

no...I think it has more to do with how really misinformed they were and were open to spreading this information out when they clearly don't know anything...

well....correction...

they know 2 things...

1. Blu is the future
2. BD's are scratch resistant...

The statement that a Blu-Ray is scratch resistant is false itself

I have rented a few that were scratched and scuffed and would not play.
You can scratch one by just rubbing it along a wooden entertainment cabinet

BD is not scratch resistant, it's just "more" scratch resistant than SD-DVD.

My local Blockbuster told me they are waiting for their shipment,
and that was 7 months ago

They really don't know what corporate will send them; they can only assume.

Blockbuster sucks. The one in Federal Heights, Colorado does anyways. There's this old bald headed manager who seems to be there every hour of everyday. This guy has an attitude and always watches me like I'm going to steal stuff everytime I walk in. Anyways, two weeks ago, when trading in a couple games (they gave me $25 for a game I bought for $7.99 on sale at Circuit City), I asked them when they were going to start carrying Blu-ray.

He said that he just got word from Corporate and they told every Blockbuster that they were just going to stick to DVD's and maybe HD-DVD later on since "The only people Blu-ray have is Universal and Disney". I swear everytime I walk into that store I wanna punch the guy in his head since he's so dumb. He also raves on about how the Xbox 360 is the future of gaming...? And this is all coming from a guy in his late 40's.

A local radio station was saying that Warner stopped making DVD's and that everyone had to buy Blu-Rays now since DVD's are gone. It was quite funny actually.

Typical of retail employees. I have run into this same problem at multiple retail chains, no one knows what they are talking about.

That is pretty funny. I guess that is what Toshiba gets for purposely picking a name with DVD in it.

Seriously, they probably saw that name as a positive, but if "HD DVD" goes down as something that becomes widely known as a failure like Beta-max, then they added a negative to the whole DVD legacy and branding. Maybe they should just shut up and let people say, "Blu-ray DVD" so they can be tied to the winner.

Age is irrelevant to knowledge. It doesn't matter if he's in his 40s, 50s or 60s, if you've studied and researched and "know" the correct information, then knowledge is power. What you're experiencing with this guy is "ignorance".

Secondly, besides Disney, Blockbuster was one of the first to back Blue Ray. Blockbusters around my neck of the woods have never carried HD-DVD... only Blue Ray. I've never seen HD-DVD in a Blockbuster before.

I know the Rogers where I rent movies they are asking every customer that rentrs a Blu or the "Other one" "Do you realize that this is a Blu Ray Disk and it will not work on a standard DVD Player? You need a Blu Ray Player?"

they still dont know what is happening, ofcourse I was there just last week so things may have changed since then.
