Default HDTV compatibility question

Now Blu-Ray and HDTV's are all of one standard now, correct? They aren't separated by NTSC, PAL-esque type differences are they?

So if one were to buy a UK release and play it on a Japanese region player and TV, it would work completely the same as if it were played on a UK region player and TV, right?

Basically, I am asking if everything is one standard now.

Yes, the high def material is compatible.

However, the NTSC/PAL issue still exists when trying to view standard def material (many Blu-Rays have standard def extras). If that's the case, you won't be able to view the extras that are in standard def.

And remember, you still have to deal with region coding. Many discs are locked to only one region.
