so what are in your opinion the best dickens adaptations?

I love dickens, to me he's one of the best writers of all time, and personally, I think in english only shakespeare is better than him.

Lean's Great Expectations is my favorite, and perhaps my favorite English film of all time, but I'm curious because there's many of those titles listed above I haven't seen

It sounds like you may enjoy David Lean's Oliver Twist and the 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

I did enjoy A Christmas Carol, but I havent seen oliver twist, or surely I did when I was little but have no recollection of it

checking Lean's great expectations I dont understand why hasnt been released by criterion or BFI with all kinds of bells and whistles. Also the oliver twist version you quoted me, seems like a german or a lesser release. this is top of the tier english cinema, why has been Lean so mistreated?

There's also "The Man Who Invented Christmas," which isn't a movie based on a book by Charles Dickens but about the man himself creating one of his greatest works.

I've been aiming to watch a adaptation of A Christmas Carol every year. This year the pick is between the 1938, 1951, and 1970 versions. It's a tough choice because I have to factor in which ones may go OOP or get a better edition before next year.
I don't have the 1935 version but the release by Legend films is OOP.
