I was hoping the same, I really want to replace my old blu ray 8 movie box with all of those lovely individual amaray case 4K copies.

It’s funny to note that Lost Highway, in the UK, is getting the Criterion Blu-Ray, but not the 4K.
At least it will replace their god awful PAL sped-up 1080i/50 release from 2012.
I actually thought ours was 1080i/50 as well, so I avoided it, but apparently not…

If Madman still holds the rights, we might be lucky to get a 1080pBD release (if they can make back the cost of the Criterion transfer).
I very much doubt we would see 4K. It is not a well known and publicised film like Parasite. Since many of their “Arthouse” titles don’t get Blu-Ray releases,

I don’t think we will get a 1080pBD for Lost Highway, especially with the state of decay that the Aussie BD/UHD market is in. Even Sony and Warner Bros. won’t do Blu-Ray/4K releases here where other regions get Blu-Ray and 4K (recent ecamples Studio 666 and Malignant, respectively). We get stuck with a shitty DVD transfer. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Madman does a new release for Lost Highway on DVD only.

Anyway… The reason I came here was to inquire if anyone knows if a Blu-Ray release is planned for Clerks III here in Australia.
Couldn’t find out who the distributor was for Clerks III in Australia.
Looking online it “appears” as if it is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Would like to wait and buy a local BD of Clerks 3 (released by Lionsgate in November in US), but I highly doubt we will get a Blu-Ray release

Im starting to justify piracy for some titles as even regular releases such as casino, goodfellas, and the Ten Commandments 4k never get reissues and are impossible to find in stock locally. Their is clearly demand for these titles as they are out of stock everywhere/ whilst the blurays can be found relatively easily

The Madman BD of Lost Highway is a port of the French release (hence only having optional French subtitles), it's solid but not impressive. But yeah, at least the framerate is correct. Madman did a good job with those Director's Suite releases for the most part, especially The Fifth Element and Leon.

Yes there is a chance. The Australian version of vol 1 was released 2 months later than overseas last year. And the Volume 1 Hitchcock movies were released a year later than overseas. But you can increase the chances by buying other catalogue 4K horror/thriller movies that they have already released, ideally within a couple of months. I see you have Psycho in your collection, well that is only 1 of the 9 4K Hitchcock movies that USHE have already released between the last 5 - 17 months, which all got good reviews. So if you are picky about what you buy even with all the sales at JB then you can't really blame the distributors when they are also with what they release (especially when the distributor releases for many major studios and just cherry picks what they want). The distributors can get reports from the retailers that show exactly how many copies they have sold and in a UHD market as small as Australia every sale counts. Even if it only takes a couple of years to sell all the stock then they might just think that they just met the demand, but if they sell more copies more quickly then they are going to take more notice and release more titles that are overseas and quicker. On the other hand the official Amazon stock of the Classic Monsters 4K and Hitchcock movies is out of stock, so it couldn't have done that bad, but I think JB is still gets the largest amount of the print run because surveys show most retail dollars are spent instore.

Thanks. I knew there were a couple of good UHD titles that Madman released, apart from Parasite. While I imported the US 4K release of Parasite way before Madman said they were doing a UHD release (bought Umbrella’s Whiplash 4K release and The Babadook 4K), and I can only assume Madman used the US 4K UHD master, which looks fantastic (4K DI shot in 6.5K).

So happy that Scream 2 is getting a local 4k release. Not so happy that it isn’t until November 9th.

Thanks for the insight, Tim. I don't think I've quite thought of our market in those terms, but I'm not surprised it can get so granular.

Hey Kicks! I know you aren't posting much on these forums but in case you read this I'm hoping that the team that makes release decisions for Paramount will consider a local 4K release for "Smile" given its very good box office these last 3 weeks in Australia. In its 3rd weekend it made almost as much as Halloween Ends (which is getting a local 4K) made in its first weekend and I think word of mouth is strong enough to keep this doing really well over the next month.

According to the Stack released list The Driver 4K has been pushed back to Jan 2023 and The Paino 4k date has changed to Dec 2023, so probably cancelled or pushed back so far it doesn't matter.

SMILE has been hugely successful, and this has been a very successful year for horror movies. I think SMILE is the third highest grossing horror movie of 2022 (behind NOPE and THE BLACK PHONE). I'd much rather buy a local 4K disc of SMILE than have to buy the 4K disc from overseas, so I'm hoping for an Australian 4K release of SMILE too.

I also would have bought a local 4K disc of ORPHAN FIRST KILL and BODIES BODIES BODIES, but it looks as though ORPHAN will be on Blu-ray (30 Nov) and BODIES BODIES BODIES will only be on DVD (7 Dec).

I would normally say not a chance when it comes to 4K titles released overseas by boutique labels as none of the Australian boutique labels release 4K stuff, but along comes Via Vision with a number of upcoming 4K titles (Dirty Dancing, Blues Brothers, Almost Famous) due to be released. And the last local Blu Ray release of Army of Darkness in 2013 was from…yep Via Vision. So technically anything is possible but I wouldn’t hold your breathe…even if Via Vision were interested and could get the rights to a 4K version, I wouldn’t expect it for a number of years given the time it’s taken for the above list of titles to finally arrive on the local market.

Unless Studio Canal release it in the UK (like they did with 1 and 2) then it has no chance by a big studio in Australia. And no one knows what the local boutique distributors will do.

I have done some research on this. Keep in mind that only the 81 min theatrical cut is on a 4K disc, this cut was apparently created by outside editors because Universal wanted a lower age rating. Shout Factory said "We did not have access to proper elements to do a 4K version of the other cuts".

The other cuts included on the 3 region locked BDs are the 1080p 81 min theatrical cut + extras, 96 min director's cut + extras, 88 min international cut and 90 min TV cut + extras on the last disc. The TV cut is 1.33 aspect ratio and in standard definition.

Madman released Donnie Darko last month. They also released some anime like Akira, Weathering with You and Your Name. Umbrella also released The Babadook and Whiplash, but nothing in the last year.

Hey does anyone know if the 4k AU Versions will include the same extras for Highlander and Raw Deal as UK editions? I'm trying to decide if I'm going to import or not.

Without actually seeing the Australian release yet to confirm I would say with a great deal of confidence that it will be exactly the same deal as all the other Studiocanal Classics Remastered range in that the 4K disc will just be a copy of the U.K disc right down to having the U.K BBFC rating logos on the disc. It also means that any special features on those discs will of course be carried over. Be aware though that as the 4K disc has the special features on them Studiocanal don’t give you a Blu-Ray copy (although their upcoming King Kong release apparently does include a Blu ray copy but we don’t know yet the reason for that).
So if you want a Blu ray copy to go along with the 4K you will need to pay extra for the U.K version's but you won’t miss out on any features with going local 4K only.
