Anyone like UK quads?

I have a decent sized collection of 30x40 inch original UK quads that I have picked up over the years, I can post photo's if anyone is interested. Here are a few cool horror quads...

The fantastic original UK cinema release used the alternate Prisoner of the Cannibal God title rather than the more common Mountain of the Cannibal God.

Again, an alternate title for Axe, considering only person is killed using an axe it is hardly an 'axe massacre' is it? Probably retitled to cash-in on the notoriety of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Classic horror film with a great twist ending. Pretty much the standard artwork used for Dead & Buried worldwide.

I really like the UK Quads, I've only bought one and it was for my dad's theatre... I've kicked the idea around of building a backlit poster box to hold quads but never pulled the trigger. Not sure one will fit in the new theatre or not.

It's very hard on a still photo to get across just how large these UK quads actually are, they take a lot of space on the wall so most of mine are just stored flat on top of my wardrobe. Here are a couple more.

I love this artwork, so colourful and just plain cool.

An amusing double bill, Cathy's Curse uses the original artwork for Axe while I have no idea what Draws is although that tagline 'Makes Jaws Look Lik a Lovesick Goldfish!' is hilarious.

I have never even heard of Game for Vultures but the quad has cool artwork so who cares what the film is like. Again, Confessions of a Pop Performer is an odd choice for a co-feature since two seem to have nothing in common.

Friday the 13th in 3-D! Note this quad has both 'X' and '18' certs on it as this was released around the time the UK were changing from the 'A', 'AA' and 'X' certs to the ones we use now 'U', 'PG', '15' and '18'.

The four latest quads I won on eBay came this morning, here they are...

The Unholy isn't a particularly striking quad but it's decent enough and a nice addition to my collection. This has been listed on eBay loads of times, the seller would list it, it would end with no bids and then the seller would list it again straight away! After about two months of this I took pity on him and bought it, at least it was cheap, in mint condition and quite colourful as the red really 'pops' on it (the photo isn't the best actually).

A quad for Wes Craven's underrated The Serpent and the Rainbow, definitely one of his best films. The quad looks nicer in reality without the annoying glare, most of this quad should be deep black.

An odd quad for the obscure Oliver Reed/Peter Fonda giant killer mutant psychic snake film Spasms. It has never been released on DVD anywhere in the world, if you want to see it you will have to watch a VHS copy of it. Not sure about the hand/snake image but still a cool quad...

Wow! These came quick. I won them on eBay on Monday and arrived yesterday afternoon. I put bids in on a fair few quads and won them all but one, an original quad for Children of the Corn which I would have liked but not for £30+.

Fantastic artwork for the action thriller Airport '80 The Concorde. This is a retitle since it was originally released in the US as The Concorde... Airport '79 and when finally released on DVD in the UK the distributor's changed the title back.

More action adventure with an equally fantastic 1979 quad for Alistair MacClean's Bear Island, I wish the artwork was in full colour rather than black and white but it's still a cool quad for a good film. In fact it makes me want to see the film again right now.

Has anyone actually seen this? I have never even heard of The Big Bus but the quad has nice colourful artwork and most importantly it was cheap. This has some tape marks in the corners but nothing excessive.

I am still not sure if I am wasting my time posting these but... just in case someone out there are liking them...

Odd couple of double bill quads here, I don't think either film is particularly good but in this one Barracuda is the main feature while The Inglorious B$%%s plays second fiddle (sorry, photo is a little blurred).

While the exact opposite is true in this which is advertising the same two films but swaps the showing order around for some strange reason, also the artwork for Barracuda is totally different yet it is the same for The Inglorious B£*^%$s. It just seems strange to me for the distributor to go to the expense of designing and printing a completely different quad for what is exactly the same two film double bill, just switched around.

I have never seen two quads advertising the same double bill with the showing order switched around before and I doubt I ever will in the future.

I have been collecting original UK cinema quads for a number of years now, nothing too serious just a couple here, a couple there when I feel like it or when a particularly nice quad comes up for sale.

I think it's no secret to say that eBay is the best place to buy quads, it's as simple and straightforward as that. When I search eBay for quads I have three criteria, one is I like the quad obviously, two is the price and that I can afford it and three is that the quad is folded. I HATE, HATE, HATE rolled quads, I find them difficult to store properly, impossible to open and look at (they just roll up again) and they seem to suffer far more from creases than folded quads.

Here is an example, when I placed a bid for this quad I had no idea it was rolled, being a quad from the 70's I assumed it would be folded but I was disappointed to receive it rolled in a cardboard tube, if I had known it was rolled I would not have bid on it. It's a great quad with fantastic if very misleading artwork (Dial Rat for Terror is actually a retitle of an obscure film called Bone and isn't a horror film at all but a social drama!) but I HATE rolled quads...

I have had to use four VHS tapes, one on each corner, to keep the quad flat on the floor. For those interested the tapes are The Psychic Killer, The House of the Long Shadow's, Cannibal and And Now the Screaming Starts.

After starting this thread to post some pictures of my UK quads I have gone a little crazy on eBay, in fact I have bought more quads in the past three weeks than in the previous three years...

Dracula A.D. 1972/Trog and Deep Star Six both arrived today and I have a few more coming but after this haul I will limit myself to at most maybe one or two a month...

This quad is just awesome. A Double Horrific Programme indeed as both films are considered stinkers, Dracula A.D. 1972 is Hammer's worst Dracula film while Trog is... is just bad.

A nice quad for the enjoyable underwater monster flick Deep Star Six. See those two little nicks on the bottom right hand edge? I did those ripping the envelope open... doh!

Today's subject is hunting humans and arrow's...

Some more quads from eBay have arrived.

Jean-Claude Van Damme. He has made some top tier action films actually. Timecop, Sudden Death and Hard Target are still three absolute top 90's action films.

Here is a quad I won on eBay last week and which came today, it's a great film about wealthy men paying the sinister Lance Henriksen to arrange hunts where humans are the prey and it's a cool quad with a mean looking JCVD reflection in the steel of the arrow. The quotes maybe take up too much room but I still like it, it's unusual to see quotes from director's (Tarantino, Raimi and Cameron) rather than from newspaper reviews or critic's. It's also interesting to note despite John Woo being hyped up on this quad Hard Target is maybe as good as it got for Woo in the US and is probably his best American film and hasn't done anything of note for years.

I love Turkey Shoot (no film for CHICKENS!), also known as Escape 2000 in the US. Again the central premise of hunting human prey (the dead guy on the floor has arrow's stuck in him) but with loads of gory exploitation, action and enough WTF moments to make this highly entertaining. And it's set in the distant future of 2000 as well. Turkey Shoot in the UK was classified by the BBFC on 07/01/1983 and had a massive 6 minutes worth of cuts imposed and it still got an adults only 'X' rating. Note the quad features both the 'X' and '18' ratings as this was the period when we were changing from the 'A', 'AA' and 'X' to the 'U', 'PG', '15' and '18' ratings we still use today.

High Velocity is a really obscure film, looking at the IMDb there are no external reviews at all, the quad is great although I hate it when a wonderful piece of artwork is ruined by having all the colour removed and it looks like a hunting type of film and again feature's arrow's as the tip of the arrow slides into the groove of the 'V'.

Here is the reverse side of Hard Target which is the same as the front but backwards, like you were looking the front but in a mirror. I don't have any other quads with both printed front's and back's.

Along with Hard Target today I also received a quad for The Amityville Horror...

Can't say I think much of the quad or the film it promotes, it was less than a fiver though. "For God's sake, get out!"

While still a bit dark I much prefer the sequel Amityville II: The Possession on both counts, I prefer it as a film to the original and think it's a much better looking quad as well with nicer artwork for the titular house.

Here are the last few rolled quads that I own, as I said I don't like them and avoid buying them if at all possible...

Here is a rolled quad for a double bill of Piranha II: Flying Killers and Silent Rage, the Silent Rage part of the quad is awful but the Piranha II: Flying Killers makes up for it. It's just a shame they ruined some fantastic artwork by draining all the colour out of it and washing it with dark red.

A cool teaser quad for Alien vs. Predator featuring the Alien, ones were sent out in the same design but featuring the Predator head. This quad look much better in reality than in my not very good photo, much more detailed with much better colours.

Here's a quad for the entertaining horror comedy House, pretty much the standard artwork used worldwide I assume.

This arrived today. I keep bidding on quads on eBay fully expecting to be outbid but quads never seem to go for much money or get more than one or two bids. There are even more I would love to put bids on for ridiculously tiny amounts of money and win and give them a good home but enough is enough.

This has gorgeous artwork and it cost less than £8, how could I not place a bid? Again, I have never even heard of The Belstone Fox as a film, when I first saw the amazing quad I thought it was a Watership Down style animation but looking at the IMDb it's a full live action film. You can see some yellow tape stains in the corners but the quad is not ripped or damaged and has no pin holes in the corners which are very common on old quads. In fact this is in amazing condition for a quad from 1973.

Many of my photo's simply don't do these quads justice, the amazing artwork, vibrant colours and perfect pin sharp printing on a large 30x40 inch poster. Here is a close-up of the Fox.

And here's one of the hunt and a Hound. Notice the 'A' rating is next to the title. This quad has quickly become one of my favourites, I just love the artwork which was obviously composed to fit the landscape style UK quad and the way it's painted.

Give me an amazing original quad with fantastic artwork like The Belstone Fox over a modern day Picasso or Lowry print any day.

Here are some classic 80's horror film quads, depending on your opinion these are either fun 80's brilliance or bad 80's rubbish and both have been used to describe all three of these. Personally I like all of these films.

Original UK artwork for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. I think I am right in saying this cool artwork was never used again, the UK VHS cover was certainly different and since this was commissioned for the UK landscape style quad I assume it was never used anywhere else.

Simple but effective quad for Stephen King's Children of the Corn, I quite like this filmed adaptation actually, much better than the recent SyFy Channel one in my opinion.

Sorry for the crap photo here, it's rather blurred but I love Day of the Dead and this is a creepy poster actually with those blue deformed zombie mask's looking right out at you. I really like the colours on this quad too with the bright yellow against the cold pale blue (it looks much better in reality).

I now have just one quad left on eBay, maybe I will win it maybe I won't. I lost four last week but they went for silly money and I will only pay what I think the quad is worth, no more.

Here is an awesome quad for John Carpenter's The Fog on a bizarre double bill with the crime comedy A Man, a Woman and a Bank. I won this on eBay over the weekend and it arrived today, I spent a lot of money on this one, £28 in fact but I love the artwork for The Fog so really wanted it...

Cool artwork for the slightly dull horror film The Awakening, if I remember The Awakening is more of a possession film than a straight Mummy movie. Certainly this artwork makes the film look better than it is. Again, notice the plug for the paperback in the bottom right hand corner. Also surprised The Awakening got an 'X' certificate considering it's a pretty tame film, I would have thought an 'AA' certificate like The Fog would have been OK.
