I find that movie posters rarely get re-stocked, and if they do, it must be very limited quantities. I've never seen them available after the initial offering, especially for bigger movies.

Congrats, dispute what others may say, this one-sheet final style for Episode 7 is insanely rare, and quite valuable if you are lucky to find one in near-mint/mint condition. If you frame it, don't dry mount it, and don't use cardboard backing, go with a professional framer and have it loose between the glass and the backing of the frame, go with an acid-free backing too, anything else will cause yellowing later on down the road.

I am in the original movie poster industry, have been for 25 years, trust me a light box frame isn't required to display the movie poster. True a lightbox will give it more of a movie theater experience and will illuminate the poster but a lightbox is not a required element to display it. Everything I have framed that is double-sided I simply had them professionally framed. Cost-wise it can be cheaper to go that way than a light box, unless a person makes one themselves.

I had over 100 of each prequel style at that time, but most have sold, wish I still had more of the first two prequel films, as I am well stocked on Sith. I don't recommend storing posters in the same tube for as long as you have, cardboard is extremely acidic and breaks down over the years and can cause staining. At the very least I would remove them from the tube they have been in and put them in a new tube.

Awesome information I will look for them and follow the advice you have provided....I will sure see how much is going to be to framed the posters professionally meaning that they have been stored for so many years...I sure hope they are still in good condition...I will post some pictures soon as I find them......Thanks again for the information

Absolutely no problem, feel free to private message me anytime. When you go to a framer, make sure you explain that you do not want them to dry mount the poster, some framers will do that without it being mentioned. You do NOT want to dry mount the Episode 7 final style poster or any original movie poster as it makes the poster worthless because the process alters it. You would simply want the poster loose between the glass (or plexiglass which is lighter) and the backing of the frame. I would recommend an acid-free backing. don't worry about doing a matte around the poster, it really isn't needed for something as large as a poster. A professional frame job with a nice metal frame, UV Glass or UV Plexiglass with acid-free backing could run $200-$250.

A lightbox is a nice option as well, but those can run just as expensive or even more than a professional frame job. Regarding storage, cardboard over long term can cause staining, it takes a long time, but it does happen. How you store them also with regards to temperature, etc has an impact too. Keep the tube in a cool dry place, dont have it sitting by a heater vent or in the sunlight, etc.

Of the ones you mentioned in your posting, provided they are in near-mint/mint condition, the ones that of the most valuable are the Episode 1 teaser and the Saving Private Ryan poster. Which style of Episode 3 are you missing? The advance teaser or the final style? Final style was the cast version by Drew Struzan who did the artwork for all three prequel final style posters as well as other Star Wars posters. If you decide to keep them in a tube for safe keeping, just to be safe toss out the tube they have been in and use a new tube.

In terms of buying the Force Awakens poster (or any rare posters), will the price likely continue to go up or might it drop over time? Not sure if it's best to buy one ASAP or if waiting a while for the hype to go down usually yields lower prices.

Well just check ebay, they are flooded with them. I'm sure DMR had hundreds of them and that's helping driving the price down a bit.

In my opinion eBay and Amazon aren't the foremost places to dictate the true value of an item. As many will agree, something is only worth what a person is willing to spend, but in the case of original movie posters and their value there are a number of factors. Over 95% of the posters on eBay are either being sold by people who really don't have that much knowledge on them, or know how to properly package a poster up for shipping. They generally people who get a poster from a theater and then stick it up on eBay. Condition is key, and while someone may think their poster is "mint", in reality it would be classified as "fair" to someone with knowledge of posters. eBay is also a haven for reprints and counterfiets being sold by sellers not only in the USA but from all over the world. To the unsuspecting collector, they can easily be fooled and it happens all the time. Yes, double-sided fakes do exist as well, and often times there are even poster websites that sell them, some claiming they are "limited edition reprints" which is not right.

Sure, as Underworld said, you can look at eBay and see the prices for the Episode 7 final style poster, but ultimately that really only applies to those people who turn to eBay for their posters. Reality speaking, a mint condition final style with no tears that is clean and crease free can fetch $250+. I personally have already sold some in that condition to my customers because there are collectors who are quite passionate about their collection and want the best of the best when it comes to condition.

Most, if not all, of the "original" Episode 7 posters on eBay came from either theaters or the DMR website. With the DMR site still packaging their posters up poorly, some sellers may disclose that on their auctions, some may not. Some may not even think its worth disclosing, and that can cause probelms. My advice for anyone who goes the eBay route is to ask the sellers questions and any seller who won't respond in detail don't give your business to. Also make sure they are using actual images of the posters, and not simply a stock image showing a mint condition poster. My idea of "near-mint/mint" and another person's idea of it are probably way off, and I have seen thousands upon thousands of posters in the 25 years I have been in this hobby.

Value-wise, you won't see the Episode 7 posters coming down in price. Some may debate that, but again, the reality is, the prices will remain high and continue to head north in terms of collectibility and price. For those who managed to get a near-mint/mint one through DMR, you are sitting on a very nice poster, as most were damaged in transit, and generally much of the time, theater posters don't usually arrive in near-mint/mint condition to begin with. As you have less of something in high grade condition, prices go up as they are rarer to find. It's like that for any collectible, comic books, baseball cards, Magic the Gathering cards, and even movie posters.

Certainly not my intention to make anyone feel bad just being as honest as I can because in the poster industry, there can be a lot of dishonesty and misinformation put out there.

No I know. Appreciate your honesty. I want to get one off eBay so you've helped point out things I should look for
