I've found the back cover for the Australian 4K and Blu ray of Bumblebee and as can be seen it states that the film itself is rated PG but the special features are rated M (same thing is on back of the Blu-ray). So at least on the Blu-ray edition its possible it might be the cut version - the 4K disc however is always sourced from the U.S by Paramount so it will very likely be the uncut U.S version.
If this is the case then it's actually pathetic for paramount to do a whole new disc for aus censored with uncut bonus features keeping the higher rating. I couldn't see why its not uncut and m since its not a kids movie and most kids including me when i was younger was watching M. If anyone can confirm if this is cut or not it will be good.

They obviously think we're stupid or just don't care. It's even more of an insult to us kiwis since, to the best of my knowledge, it was uncut in cinemas here (and rated PG to boot).

Anyway it's $43 from WowHD so that's where my money will be going.

The UHD US copy is $44 on Amazon AU. $35 for the Aussie UHD. Can get free shipping with a purchase that will send it over $49.

Since I am not a massive fan of Transformers, I might just wait until it is released in Australia, buy the BD+UHD and compare both features run time as soon as I get it back home. IF the 1080pBD is cut, I will take it back, complain, and import the US copy.

I think I'll wait for confirmation. Returns are a bit of a pain.

I plan to get the Australian release as I will only watch the 4K version and that is always just the U.S disc packaged along with the Blu-ray. I can check the exact run times of both and see if there is a difference in run times (If our edited version is the U.K edited version required to get a lower rating there, then it should be 6 seconds difference) I saw the PG version at the cinemas but it was it so seamless without any jarring or noticeable edits I really wouldn't have known it had any cuts - and it had plenty of impactful robot fight scenes so I'm really curious to know what those 6 seconds shows that would make the difference between PG and M. Anyway I will check and post what I can discover when I have it.

Did it have the scene where
[Show spoiler]Cliffjumper gets chopped in half by Dropkick
? Because that's what I assumed was cut for the UK and Australia.

Well in honesty I just found that particular scene online and watched it and I remember the scene itself but I don't recall at all how the scene ended when I saw it at the movies. When the film is released here I can check that scene on both the 4K and Blu ray discs though. Its funny if that was the one shot that made the difference between a PG and an M rating because I felt there were far more impactful scenes left in the movie that may disturb younger kids way more than that scene.

Ah yeah, it's quite violent,
[Show spoiler]he's right up close facing away from camera, then the blade cuts through lengthwise from the middle of his head and you see the two halves separate and fall down. Obviously not gory but it's quite brutal and the action is right up in your face, so I'm still going to assume it was what had be to changed for the PG, guess I'll know for sure when I watch the UHD

I thought it might have been an F-bomb. For continuity’s sake, the 6 seconds may come from taking out the offending lines. Having not seen BB in any form I thought an F-bomb may be the “offending” material.

No it appears it wasn't that. In trying to research what exactly was cut from the film - and coming up empty handed - I did find sites from the U.S that monitor films for parents and detail the extent of violence, sex and language in films and the instances of "objectionable" language usage they found and listed did not include the F word. Given the uncut film got an M rating, was edited and still got an M which was then appealed before a review board and finally got the PG rating it would seem likely some moment of violence was the reason. It could be the scene Alistair_M posted in spoiler tags above as while I saw it at the movies I can't remember how exactly that scene ended so it's something I could easily check once the Blu Ray is released. If the 4K and Blu Ray both have that scene intact comparing running times is probably the easiest way to confirm that potential cuts exist on the Blu Ray as I don't think I'd have the time nor inclination to watch the movie through twice in a row (despite really enjoying the film) trying to figure out what was cut particularly if it's just mere seconds of footage

Its also super expensive these days with the enforced 3D/Imax/Xtreme screenings that can cost as much as the physical copy. Used to enjoy cinemas more when standard was the tradition

And censoring Die Hard's classic line is unbelievable

Are you talking about the decision to go US PG-13 for Die Hard 4.0? If so, I concur. The ending of 4.0, with the gunshot over the “Yippee Ki-Yay Mother F*ucker” was wrong (the gunshot is heard where the asterix is and for most of the word).
In fact, the whole tone of the film was f*cked by the toned down bloodless violence and lack of F-bombs.

At least the Die Hard 4.0 Unrated Cut (which finally was released on Blu-Ray in the Aussie 25th Anniversary Legacy Collection), does save the film somewhat. I feel it is edited better than the Theatrical, since lips are synced more appropriately and there aren’t times when John mutters something but no sound comes out. It appears that they were making an R-rated film but the studio got cold feet and went with PG-13.

https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4522

I go 2-3 times a year to the movies, at best. Haven’t been to the cinemas yet this year, but since I want to see Avengers: Endgame at the theatre, for continuations sake, will be seeing Marvel Girl... Will probably see X-Men: Dark Phoenix (X-Men Apocalypse was the first film X film I didn’t see at the theatre), and we were lucky that went to Aussie cinemas uncut, since initially, it got an MA15+ http://www.classification.gov.au/New...pocalypse.aspx

Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and the film was classified M, unmodified, after the review.

Given that it looks like Paramount in Australia appears to be releasing the edited PG version of Bumblebee on Blu-ray and DVD despite having the option to release the original M version I though I'd check on another recent Paramount title that was cut from an M down to a PG for cinema release: Instant Family. Again I found the back cover for the upcoming Blu-ray release of this film and surprise surprise it has been rated PG - So again Paramount seems to be releasing the edited version at home as well. A disappointing trend. (At least Overlord came out in the R version despite an MA version being rated for cinema release - I guess the difference is that Overlord is a film for mature audiences anyway whereas Bumblebee and Instant Family are being aimed/marketed as "Family" films)

Yeah looks like I'm importing both. I don't understand given the OFLC ratings on the blu rays - I guess the M just relates to extras.

BTW, for what it's worth, the digital version of Bumblebee on iTunes Australia is showing as PG. And PG for Instant Family.

How embarrassing. M isn’t even restrictive - when I worked at a cinema, anybody could go into an M rated flick without supervision. MA is when it gets restrictive. So cutting a film for PG will not impact its commercial performance - whatever money they might glean from perhaps a parent allowing their child to watch it because PG, they will lose from people being turned off by the censorship.

just ranted to pari on fb and told them id rather pirate(I hate piracy) these movies than buy censored copies with my own money, and that they are ruining the local film industry. Looks like i'll have to grab these in the US, what a shame

I emailed Paramount Australia last week about this, they just got back to me with this:

Thank you for your email.

The added VAM on the Blu ray & 4K for Bumblebee makes these skus M rated. The Movie across all formats (DVD/Bluray & 4K) is the Australia/UK cut of Bumblebee (PG).

The DVD will be PG rated as it does not include the additional M rated VAM that is featured on the Blu-ray and 4K.

The VAM that is M rated is the original opening, beevision: The transformers of Cyberton piece and Charlie in the Trash piece.

Hope this clears this up for you.

Pari got back to me and the response is not good. They said hypocritically that I'm killing the local market when they are, calling me a pirate does not solve this issue of censorship in the 21st century. I feel that they should honestly do an uncut M release and do a PG BD-25 for the people who want that. Of course they won't bother which is pathetic. What a mess and proves that paramount are perhaps the worst movie studio on the planet looking at both this and the mission impossible releases
