Ahhh. I see what you did there. And you would be entirely correct. The last thing Via Vision would want is to be paying discount rebates to JB for brand-new releases.

Per the email I received:

"Due to extraordinary levels of demand during this sale as well as a recent warehouse move, your Black Friday order will ship approximately Friday 16 December, if not before."

A mastering delay, out of our control, has forced us to delay the release date for our November titles to December 7.
They've been listed as Dec 7 on JB's site for months.

..would like to order The Mountain eventually from Imprint but am concerned that it might end up being an inferior video transfer like their release of Secret of the Incas was...the latter however is being given a 4K scan by Kino...

..i don't think Imprint mentioned a 2K scan for The Mountain so it would seem to be a gamble..

Can't be any worse than the Olive release from a years back. (I hope!).

When you pre-order, about how long does it take for them to ship something to US?

Lately for me, it’s taken about three to four weeks and they usually ship a few days up to a week before street date.

It'd be nice if WA stores got literally any stock of these releases, I keep having to pay shipping to get them in from over east.

From the Blu-ray.com review from the 2012 Olive release: "there doesn't seem to be any restoration work of any type done on the elements, so there are occasional scratches and other blemishes"

Hopefully Imprint can come up with something better than that, otherwise their rep will take a hit. Kino keeps one-upping them in the PQ dept. OTOH, Kino has no plans of acquiring this film for a reissue, at least that's what they told me when I asked. Apparently the Olive disc didn't sell well enough. I find that a bit hard to swallow. Even if it didn't do gangbusters, it's been 10 years since that old release. I would think a lot more people would've discovered the film in that time and may be interested in an upgrade

Don't hold your breath, Via Vision/Imprint doesn't have the financial resources to create new masters, they just plunk on a disc whatever transfer they can get from the rights holders. Kino has seriously embarrassed them over the last six months with newer transfers of the same films. I would expect this to continue.

Why they keep releasing things that have a restoration pending, on the other hand...

Random question is anyone still buying ALL Imprint releases or are you being more selective?

I tend to buy the releases I want really badly at a higher price, and then wait for a more reasonable price for others I have a mild interest in.

I've got a fairly high percentage of them all (I guess) because I usually find it's cheaper to order the bundle direct with one or two dud titles than buying them individually. I'm too impatient to wait for JB HiFi sales. Most of the ones I don't have I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

I can't buy many because WA stores don't bloody stock them. Between the fact that TCN gift cards can't be used online, and the cost of shipping (especially for box sets), it's a serious pain.

I have all of them up to Warning shot so far, I will get the last two waves for this year and the Walter Hill boxset (whenever that is released), but that will be it. Initially I was happy to support a local distributor trying to give it a go here in Australia, their initial 5 releases a month schedule were manageable and not too damaging on the wallet but Imprint became greedy and released more and more titles per month and their releases have just become frustrating as the same titles superior transfers would come out from other distributors mere months after the imprint release. If they were still sticking with the 5 titles per month, I probably would still keep going, frustration and all.

Via Vision does free shipping in Australia from their website, if you're happy to buy 'em not on a JB sale.
