Yes, just purchase one for the sole purpose of leaving it in your player. There are great deals on lots of USB thumb drives far larger than 1GB (although 1GB is plenty sufficient).
I use a 4GB HP brand thumb drive in my Sony BDP-S350 which I picked up for $10 last March or so. It has a really slim cross section and fits into the narrowly sized recess in my 350. Avoid the Sandisk "Cruiser" thumb drives. It may not fit (it didn't fit on my 350) as it was too large for the recess on the back of the player. |

I use a 4gb Sandisk Cruiser in my BDP-S560. after I plugged it in I used the player's utility to delete the extra garbage that comes on them. I never plugged it into a computer.
I would use the max possible. I've put over 500mb of junk on mine in the week I've had it. you need both the I-net working and the memory for BD-Live to function |

Do I still need the USB memory in the back if I don't plan on accessing BD Live content? I don't have internet access so BD Live is not an option for me.
Thanks in advance. |

I do. I have an 8gb plugged into the back of my oppo and leave it in there all the time. if i have something i want to look at (pictures, video) on another thumb drive or ext. hard drive i plug it into the front for easy access. that's why i love the 2 port 1 front & 1 rear design and you can use both ports at the same time not having to remove anyone to use the other.
to me for bd-live 8gb is a ton. |

Do you have the 350 or 360? I read all the comments on the 350 before I bought my 360 about the recessed USB port issues needing a slim drive. Quite honestly I don't know what USB drive wouldn't fit. I even pulled out my 5 year old, hulk to todays drives, 64mb flash drive and it fit with ease.
