Default Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry (2021) - February 26, 2021

Source: Variety
Quote:
Apple TV Plus is nearing a deal to acquire a yet-untitled Billie Eilish documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler and produced by Interscope Films, a source close to the situation confirmed to Variety. While reports have that said that film is part of a $25 million deal and has a budget between $1-2 million, a source close to the situation insisted to Variety that number is “wrong,” although the source declined to provide a more accurate number because the deal has not yet closed.

Reps for Eilish, Apple and Interscope did not immediately respond to Variety’s requests for comment.

Cutler (known for his work on “Nashville,” “The War Room” and “A Perfect Candidate”) has been given close access to all aspects of the Grammy Award nominee’s life, from private moments with her family and behind the scenes looks at some of her most public appearances as she’s gained worldwide attention, the source said.

Indeed, while embedded with Eilish’s tour in October, a Variety reporter witnessed a film crew following the singer virtually everywhere, and was told the crew was working on an unspecified “documentary that hasn’t been announced yet”; repeated requests for further details were declined. The source said the crew has been following Eilish for many months, possibly as far back as 2016.

The project is expected premiere on Apple TV Plus in 2020 and not on Apple Music, which may indicate an attempt at synergy between the company’s distinct streaming offerings.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Eilish was named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year this week, and headlined the streaming service’s first-ever Apple Music Awards on Dec. 4 from the Steve Jobs Theater. Her debut full-length, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?,” released in March, was the top-streamed album of the year on both Apple Music and Spotify, and she was the third most-streamed artist (and top-streamed female artist) on Spotify for 2019.

She's only 17 and her career has basically JUST started, why is she getting a documentary already?

It didn't just start, she has been popular since 2015. She's making history now with what she's already accomplished at her age, so I don't see anything wrong with a documentary. Plenty of artists have had documentaries about them even in their early years.

I mean she released music then and had a following, but she didn't become the star she is now until relatively recently.

I like Billie Eilish and her music, but I don't see the value in doing a documentary on her at this point in her career.

I don't mind her music but I can't stand her. I've seen a couple interviews with her and she is extremely annoying

You hear that?

*crickets chirping*

That's the sound of no one giving two spits.

Ironically, I'm currently listening to this cover.
They actually managed to turn it into an actual song!

Eh, freaky music videos?
Nevertheless, I doubt people are gonna remember her in a few years from now.

Probably. Her image is likely responsible for 90% of her fame.

Iím sure they were inspired by the success of the Travis Scott doc on Netflix.

I swear to God, I had never heard of her until a month or so ago. For whatever reason, Variety doesn't stop tweeting about her. If I didn't follow them, I still wouldn't know who she is.

I like her music and find her persona interesting, I'd watch a documentary about her. I also saw a youtube video where she had been interviewed 3 or 4 years in a row, answering the same questions.

In a sense, in this age of social media her life is already well documented, don't really get the butthurt this docu is causing on this board.

I like her music and she reminds me so much of a young Scarlett Johansson, so I like her. The other day I listened to one of her recent songs on Sirius, I think it’s called Everything I Wanted, or something like that. The radio guy introduced the song and mentioned that a lot of the lyrics talk about the hardship and stuff her and her brother had to go through to get to where she is. So I assume there is something to her documentary worth saying. I am interested.

She looks like something I find behind the back of my refrigerator when I do my annual clean up.
