I replayed ICO yesterday and apart from the horrid low native resolution it still stands up rather well, has its own stylistic and even technical beauty matched by no other game, even Shadow of the Colossus. During the thunderstorm at the end of the game I noticed something I hadn't before, animated wet rock textures. Silent Hill 3 did some pretty funky animated texture things the year after but I couldn't remember any game doing the wet animated rock effect so early. I was surprised by how good the pool of interactive 3D-ripple reflective water under the windmill still looks, the sparingly-used blinding orange sunlight and hard-to-describe room consuming darkness eye candy used in the final battle.

With Shadow of the Colossus and ICO fresh in my mind, I'm expecting some cool graphical innovations in the new PS3 game.

I forgot the soft shadows. It's amazing that ICO back in 2001 has better looking shadows than most console games in 2008. Soft edges with little wobble, react (change direction) to light sources like torches and look especially nice in combination with bloomy translucent cloth like the flapping window blind in the cage room.

Tiny picture but it looks like the chain pic from side-on. Looks a bit like a giant plug from that angle but the hole in the middle destroys any possibility of liquid plugging.

Taken from another forum.. thought I'd share it with you guys:

Quote:
I was sitting on the throne reading through my latest issue of Playstation The Official Magazine and on Page 95 in the Letters section, someone asks about when Yakuza 2 will be released in America (September by the way) and the second part of his question is if they have any inside info on Team Ico's next project. The answer:
Quote:
"they're working on two games - one connected to Ico, the other to Shadow of the Colossus. We're hoping to hear more in the next few months, but for now, this enticing rumor is all we've got."

The more Team ICO goodness, the better. As long as they don't spread themselves too thinly.

Check out this fantastic FANART that bridges the gap between Shadow of the Colossus and ICO.

Bet you didn't know there was an ICO novel.

Well, here's the second print.

Not much good to us but it's always good to know there's more team ICO lovin' around the globe.

Sony’s Yoshida: Team Ico Has Something “Really, Really Good on the Way”

The new head of Sony Computer Entertainment Shuhei Yoshida said, in an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, that Team Ico has something “really, really good on the way.”

The full quote:

“They are working on a title. I started the ICO project. Ueda-san joined my team in Japan as a cinematic animator, but he created a short movie and presented it to me and said, “I want to make this game.”

I said, “Yes, let’s do it, but you have never made a game. We have to have experienced people do it,” so it took a while, recruiting one person at a time. And because Fumito Ueda doesn’t compromise, we had to move the development from PSone to PlayStation 2. Then I couldn’t complete the game because I moved to the United States.

It took four years and the second game took four years too. So I started calling them the ‘Olympic Team.’ They haven’t released a PS3 title yet - of course not - they’ll take four years! But they have something really, really good on the way.”

Of course Yoshida would say something like that–he kind of has to. But given the track record of Team Ico–I think we can take his word on that.

http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/0...be-shown-soon/

Quote:
“I cannot tell,” said the exec when asked specifically if the new Team ICO game will be shown at Tokyo Game Show this year.

“But I can say that they’ve been working very hard since the release of Shadow of the Colossus.

“Soon you’ll see.”

Yoshida said that Sony’s plans for the Japanese event are yet to be finalised.

“Tokyo’s more focused on consumers so we’re still working on the intricacies,” he said. “Games Convention is unique of consumers and trade.”
Without the full interview transcript it's hard to tell what he said “Soon you’ll see” after exactly.
