So. I watched the first episode of SAC (Section 9), then watched some of the same scenes for this episode in the OVA "The Laughing Man." Is it just me, or is the scene with the hacked Geishas misplaced in the OVA. First, the movie starts the same as the episode, then it goes off to a different direction (something involving the Laughing Man). After that, it goes to the mission involving the hacked geishas, then it goes back to the Laughing Man plot as if nothing happened. Am I missing something? (I know the incident with the geishas was part of the plot in the original 1st episode).

Why bother with the OVAs anyway?

^^ I could be wrong but it's my understanding that "The Laughing Man" and "Individual Eleven" are more or less 'synopsis' versions cobbled together from excerpts of the series in sort of an abridged mode so it doesn't surprise me if the sequence of events is different...

I only bough the two movie Blu-rays used/cheap just to make my GitS Blu-ray collection more complete. I'll probably never watch them, lol...

The trick with the 2 OVA/movies is simple.

The show (serie) is subdivised into 2 categories, : "Stand alone" episodes, and "Complex" episodes.
There is 14 "Stand alone" episodes and 12 "Complex" episodes for the first season.
The "Stand alone" episodes can be seen independently in any order since each epsiode told a... stand alone story.
The "Complex" episodes told the story of the Laugthing man and are the core of the show.
The first ova/movie is only about the story of the Laughting man, so it only cover the 12 "Complex" episodes of the first season.

Same goes for the 11 individual in the second season, exept that the 2nd GIG season is subdivided in 3 categories : "Indiviual" episodes, "Dual" episode and "Dividual" episodes.
Only the "individual" epsiodes cover the story of the 11 individual, and so only some of these episodes footage are present in the 2nd OVA/movie.

Also the order of the footage in the OVA's/movies is also slightly different than the serie, so it can be a little disturbing sometime.
Hope it help.

Are the Tachikoma shorts bundlet with the regular UK Blu-ray release ? Still a bit sad that I didn't buy the complete set, even though it was a bit expensive.

The UK SAC release is at 1080p, instead of 1080i, is there any difference caused by it?
I bought both two seasons of Italian Dynit 4-disc release, which are at 1080i, in January. If I had knew that a new English release would appear after half a year, I may not buy Dynit release.

The UK release being 1080p has been discussed to death. Read the thread.

Short answer- dropped frames, and some ghosting as a result.

Those are the best examples- but some action sequences in Second Gig were composited at 30fps, and a few scenes in Gig 1 as well, so it’s not just the OPs.

If it were just the OPs, it wouldn’t be a huge deal.

Are there any comparisons between the two?

Yes. If you go back some pages, you find one that was posted. Not sure which page, but if that doesn’t work http://www.google.com is your friend.

can you fill me in on why the original USA volumes are of interest? i've got full runs of both gigs - all only played once, not checked them over thoroughly. have been looking around at selling them (for a value only, initially) and see they've been repackaged and and upgraded frequently, but for some they might have an interest for some reason? i am in the UK, have had to import most of what i've bought (especially DVD age) so that's a little hurdle with so many discs. i do hear some mentions of old DVDs have appeal for exclusive / preferred elements or options but don't follow anime that closely. will be buying the UK BD set soon.
