Er, any news on whether this release is any good, then? I still have time to cancel...

There’s gonna be an extended edition coming sometime next year. I’d just wait ‘till then.

So what the f**k are they doing with the other 20 or so gigs? Guess I'll go back to my marathon watching The Hobbit extended 3D version.

If it's anything like Digimon Adventure, you enter a code on a website which in Digimon Adventure movie 1's case is Digimonreunion.com, and you just enter the code and then put the movie on the device you want it on. So is possible that inthiscornermovie.com might update on release date.

Nothing. It was just too big for a single layer disc, but not enough to take advantage of a dual layer disc either. I have seen many DVDs be like 5.5GBs which makes it just a little too big for a single layer DVD, but doesn't take advantage of a dual layer DVD.

5.5GB is quite a bit too much for a DVD5. They hold only 4.5GB and you’ll have to stay at or under 4GB to be in the safe zone.

Well the point I am making is that sometimes there is either just a tad to much content on the disc or to little content depending on your point of view.

The maximum amount of data I've ever been able to burn on a dvd5 is about 4.1 gigs, on a dual layer blank I've been able to get about 8.2 gigs. Just finished In This Corner Of The World-what a sad story.

Actually, if whoever authors Manga's stuff nowadays did their job properly, it wouldn't even have required a BD50. The playlist file for the movie is 2hr 9m but the movie TS on the disc is 2hr 25m. There's 16 minutes of audioless stuff/extras after the movie which you can't access via normal means.

Their authoring house doesn't seem to like cutting these things down properly. The UK release of Death Note appears to literally have the materials on disc as they were received from the licensor, with the playlist file set up to skip sections of the video. It has the mastering info from the authoring house, black voids for the ad breaks as well as blank versions of the post OP/ED sponsorship cards. Even their recent release of Steamboy has two minutes before the movie compromising of this, this and black void.

I'll pick it up for $12 in store at Best Buy. Not risking Amazon's crappy shipping like I did with the G Kids Studio Ghibli movies.

Question: Shout Factory basically sub-license this movie from Animatsu/Manga UK, and took everything from the UK release and release it here? That's the impression I got from going through the blu-ray.

Since Animatsu/Manga is the international rightholder, yes.
Any editors/distributors in the world (exept Japan) need to sublicence the movie from them.

The extended version of In This Corner of the World will be shown in Japan this December, it'll be about 30-minute longer than the original version.

Nice, I hope we get to see that over here at some point, and ideally a second release on Blu-ray.
