This movie looks awful, Zemeckis really needs to get out of this "remaking documentaries" phase. The trailer played in front of something I saw a few months ago and a guy sitting near me said "Is this the best they can come up with nowadays?" Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth.

I haven't been to the movies since Solo came out. I will be going for this. Cannot wait. Looks amazing.

Did this get delayed or something? I remember seeing trailers for it back in the summer, and then it disappeared for a little, and now the trailers are back..

I was wondering the same thing. Saw a ton of trailers over summer (and maybe even spring) and actually started to think it must have some and gone without me noticing. Was really surprised to suddenly see it listed as Coming Soon at my local AMC. I was seeing previews for this along with other movies that have already been out on UHD for months.

This film is expected to lose around $60 million, so this will be another litmus test for UHD Blu-ray. For those (like me) keeping track, Universal has only cancelled one pre-order-able title so far*, which was last year's international bomb The Snowman. However, this film has both a bigger star (in America) and an internationally-renowned director, so it will be that much harder for Universal to cancel.

Perhaps they will simply issue it in North America (and possibly the UK/Australia) only, and keep the foreign releases to Blu-ray.

Either way, it will be interesting, considering Universal also has to take the one-two punch of the failures of this and of The Mortal Engines, and somehow, I can't see them cancelling that one on UHD Blu-ray.

*Johnny English Strikes Again, which has seemingly been cancelled in North America, is being released in Europe and Asia.

Currently unavailable for preorder on Amazon. I have a feeling Mortal Engines will get more UHD support than Marwen.

Absolutely. If anything, I'd expect the Blu-ray 3D edition of Mortal Engines to get cancelled before the UHD edition, but I wouldn't be surprised if the film ultimately comes out on all three formats, albeit without 3D in North America.

On the other hand, Welcome to Marwen has no international pre-orders yet, aside from a UK Blu-ray, so it's probably that much easier to cancel the UHD for North America and just release it on Blu-ray worldwide.

Still, it's a shame that fans won't be able to see the film in a UHD presentation.

Might still watch it despite the bad press. I can sympathize with the story since I've had numerous head injuries from accidents, sports, and assault that have given me long term memory and cognitive impairments. Playing football for 10+ years, especially, was a bad idea.

I wanted so badly to see this movie. I have to wonder if part of the reason it didn’t fare so well has to do with the fact that it’s only playing in major cities with huge cinemas. I live in a small town. The cinema I visit is one of the old timey ones you see on city squares (It appears in a Miranda Lambert music video). It used to have one large screen, with a second level for segregation. Eventually they renovated the second floor into a second screen. Just 10 minutes from me is a 3 screen drive-in cinema that plays two movies on each screen. Then about 20 minutes from me is an 8 screen Regal cinema. None of these were playing Welcome To Marwen. If I wanted to see it I had to travel out of state.

I am desperately hoping to get this on 4K UHD but it doesn’t seem likely.

The reason it probably didnít do so well is because people were expecting to see two hours about the mans life and not two hours of made up doll animation scenarios..

I have to admit by the trailer I expected a lot of that type of storytelling. Not to mention being a fan of Robert Zemeckis I knew to expect more of the dolls and less of the real people. This doesnít surprise me in any way. But theaters wouldnít know this without first showing it. Iím still surprised that my Regal Cinema 8 isnít at least showing it.

I was one of those 2018 Oscar-bait movies where it plays in NY and LA (per Academy's rules to be eligible for the '18 Oscars) sometime in December and then plays everywhere else in the country in January.
