Universal are unrecognisable from the hacks of 10 years ago, their mastering has turned a corner for sure but then you get something like Jurassic Park or Waterworld or Hot Fuzz which reminds you that nothing is guaranteed. Same with Paramount, they were even worse than Uni back in the day IMO and have produced some excellent UHDs to redeem themselves, but then we get obviously tinkered-with stuff like Grease, Gump and Pet Sematary to balance that out.

I was SUPER impressed with Sicario. One of the best transfers in my collection.

I think for some people any given studio will only be as good as their worst transfer. They've all got duds but I am very grateful for what we've gotten from studios like LG, Universal, and Studio Canal.

I guess I haven't seen too many Lionsgate 4K titles - just newer stuff and the catalog ones I have are pretty good. Which ones are from filmouts?

Iím praying Pulp Fiction gets the royal treatment for the UHD. Itís a great film thatís loved by critics and audiences alike, and it would feel like a missed opportunity if this release is flubbed.

As someone stated up thread, QT doesnít seem to have much to do with the home video releases, but Iím hoping that thereíll be a lot of care taken when preparing this for UHD, regardless.

Hereís hoping the people in charge of this are as big of fans as we are.

It would have to be the ROYALE TREATMENT WITH CHEESE because the metric system is all f**ked up.

I'll say this I am gonna be pretty unpleased if there is no Dolby Vision with this and it's HDR10. I'll take a UHD regardless but this movie would look amazing with DV.

I don't want to state the obvious after 7 pages of comments but...

Is an out of stock listing on a Canadian website valid confirmation that Pulp Fiction will actually be released in 4K?

I would think if a film as big as Pulp were to be released in 4K, we would have seen/heard something a bit more substantial.

Of these, I only own Dredd but never gave it a spin. Maybe I'm missing something though. Don't most of these titles have digital intermediates? Are we saying Lionsgate is creating 4K scans from a filmout made from the DI? Why don't they just upscale the DI like other studios?

But actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Tarantino just has them scan his own personal 35mm print of Pulp Fiction instead of going back to the original camera negative.

This is the million dollar question, and the same thing I wondered about after buying 3:10 to Yuma, and discovering the same thing.

Itís like an odd form of self sabotage that also adds extra expense to the UHD preparation. It doesnít make a bit of sense to me.

What are you expecting for the cover? While I imagine and hope they keep the original Mia Wallace poster as with every release, I can also see them making either a weird collage like the Ghostbusters and Scarface cover or new art like Apocalypse Now

Probably will be Mia Wallace, Lionsgate almost always reuses the old bluray art for the 4k catalogs. Ghostbusters & Scarface are different studios, and while Apocalypse Now did new art from Lionsgate, that's because since there was both a new cut & theatrical re-release involved.

Edit: Some examples

Well that's a Day 1-er.

I think this is Tarantino's best film, and it is a masterpiece.

I seem to recall he supervised the BD transfers for Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown.

There's even a "Tarantino Approved' sticker on the Pulp Fiction slip
