Yeah, they no doubt were looking at past performance when opting to release Hannibal on UHD. Which, when taking that first step on a new format, isn't an entirely unwise decision. It also seems like there is a lot of Ridley Scott films on UHD, so I'm assuming that his titles must be selling.

Kino has said that Mad Max is selling much faster than Hannibal, so it'll be interesting to see where that tops off at.

Once they did, a lot of people hated it, and to say it was "divisive" is probably being charitable.

That it underperformed sales-wise for KL was completely predictable IMO.
I haven't seen it, but I wonder if it was a movie that particularly screamed seem me 4k either. In fact I notice a lot of picks are maybe not the best 4k showcases, lots of action where there is constant motion blur or dingy gangster and crime movies.

Even if Hannibal were The Greatest 4K Ever Told I don't think it would've done any better for Kino than what it has done, because for some people the content is still more important than the medium. They upgrade to the medium because they want the besht, but not everyone buys any old shit just because it looks purty.

Not a surprise. Hopefully Hannibal did "OK" for them but that was, again, a rough choice for a format starter IMO.

Going back on topic, I am surprised Criterion hasn't moved into 4K yet. For a label always touting technical quality and processes, to not embrace the highest form in mainstream consumer electronics right now is odd.

This is disappointing.
Ha I got hyped 2 years ago (Jan. 2018) when they announced The Breakfast Club! Thinking it would be released on a 4KUHD disc! Since it had a 4K restoration.

Welcome to the Party. Barry Lyndon in 2017 I thought the same thing...1984 in mid 2019 I thought this again. I finally gave up hope. Saw the Bruce Lee set didn't even flinch or twitch n eyebrow. Been waiting almost 2.5 years for them to do a first 4K disc now. Not surprised! Welcome to the club you can join us here in purgatory

Imagine a cult classic selling more than a much maligned sequel.

I won’t have anything negative said about Hannibal, he’s by far my favourite member of The A-Team.

Likewise - he is my favourite Carthaginian general and statesman.
