You know what? I'm going to backtrack on this a bit. I don't think I have any of these on DVD anymore (I remember owning the first one), but I gave myself a refresher course on the series and I have to say, I'm not sure I will be as happy with these as I thought.

For one thing, in the first film, Drew Barrymore looks really young, which was something I forgot about. That's sort of also the reason why I don't think I've ever even watched the second film (or for that matter, Embrace of the Vampire), because to me, Alyssa Milano is perpetually the age of ten from her role in Commando. The fourth film looks like hot garbage, and it has been on Blu-ray since day one anyway, albeit in an older version with no lossless audio. I expect that the Shout! disc will improve on the existing one, but now we're down to just the third film, which strangely, I've also never seen, despite liking Jamie Pressly a lot in Ringmaster (the Jerry Springer movie, which is super awful but incredibly trashy).

Now, I also forgot that the first film does have Cheryl Ladd in it, but sadly, these aren't MILF-based movies () so she isn't the focus of the sexy/nude times.

I will be honest, the other day, someone mentioned a film that Angie Everhart was in, and it got me thinking again that we really don't have any good softcore erotic films on Blu-ray (the Shannon Tweed film Scorned was recently released in Germany, but that's pretty much it). I suppose that's why I'll be buying this set in the end, but I will be honest and say that on reflection, I am only semi-pleased, and I would be fully pleased with Blu-rays of Angie Everhart's (and Shannon Tweed, etc.) films, though I suppose Shout! are too prudish for these kinds of softcore sex films.

Excited to have the first 3 on Blu, but I'm hesitant to pre-order until we see the packaging - I don't want discs stacked on discs or multiple movies on one like the Poison Ivy triple feature dvd set.

These movies are pretty short, so two to a dual-layered disc wouldn't be a big deal at all.

The Shout! listing says it's four discs.

Any insight into potential extras?

I don't expect much if any from the last 3 but the first movie was a deliberate work of art (whether you like it or not) and I'd be happy to learn more about it from the people involved. Katt Shea is an interesting character being one of the few female directors of the era who made exploitation movies.

I also always loved the score. The movie most definitely has a big fat B stamped all over it but I always thought the score elevated it to a solid A-.

Milano made the second feel like a fun, kinda sexy TV movie. Pressly took the series into kinda fun shameless trash territory with the 3rd one - not blaming her for it cuz that's pretty much all the series could do at that point. Haven't seen the 4th one but the trailer was enough for me.

I refreshed my memory, and apparently, the fourth movie premiered on Lifetime (!) before getting a video release that was extended by five minutes, which is where I assume most or all of the nudity comes in. That coould be quite odd to watch, as it may mean that 95% of the film is TV-safe, with only occasional "excursions" into adult territory.

If only Lifetime would do something similar with their Dina Meyer movies and release those on Blu-ray, then I'd be more interested.

I think a commentary with Katt Shea is hands down confirmed, since she really loved that movie! Tom/Cheryl returning is a possibility too! I don't see Sara/Drew coming back at all. 2/3 has some actors i'm sure will do an interview/possibly a com for both but who knows?

Lifetime had nothing to do with the last PI film. They just picked it up for release as filler content for their movie channel and cut out the naughty bits. Apart from that, it was made by the same folks as the rest, which is why it's in a boxset with them. Lifetime isn't really into physical media for the most part because they have a lucrative (maybe?!) VOD thing going on for their stuff and they never really got into anything beyond limited DVD releases (Walmart, Target, and Amazon) of their stuff, despite almost all of it being suitable for Blu-Ray release. As for Dina Meyer films, I don't know why the Criterion Collection hasn't released a boxset of them, but - by golly - they should!

Cheryl Ladd and Sarah Gilbert both talked about Poison Ivy briefly last year when Ladd was a guest on Gilbert’s The Talk (or it might have been the year before that when Ladd was promoting The People Vs. OJ Simpson). Ladd wasn’t a fan at all. She called it dark and twisted and seemed disturbed by the whole thing - and more specifically the kiss. Gilbert seemed a little more proud of it but didn’t really go in depth on the topic though she looked like she had more to say. You can probably still find it on youtube.

Lightbulb Wild Things collection too, while we're at it...

Sure, why not! Alyssa & Jaime - yes please.

How 'bout a Wild Things 4-pk collection next...?

Yes please! All four Wild Things movies are genuinely good, albeit a bit repetitive. The first movie could do with having the theatrical and unrated cut on one disc plus the director's commentary which was on my old South African Blu-ray.

Same as Poison Ivy. Releasing the first one with the sequels really cheapens it. Wild Things really is a good movie, more so than Poison Ivy, while the sequels are just straight-to-video fun. I would LOVE a decent release of Wild Things though.

I think Wild Things is a pretty accomplished movie. Poison Ivy is a lot more flawed and a definite B movie but it has some great ideas and potential. All murders aside, I find that telling the movie through Sarah Gilbert’s pespective makes it a good coming-of-age story with a then unusual perspective (thanks to the female director for that). I always felt like the movie really wanted to tell the story of the relationship between Ivy and Coop and was turned into a thriller on second thought cuz it's what sold then.

Also, that introduction scene with Ivy finishing that dying dog was a great way to introduce the character. Did she do it out of empathy or apathy? You never really know.
