Default Sony S350 Blue Ray Player & Sony Bravia XBR5

Hi Everyone,

I just recently purchased a Sony Bravia 52" XBR5 & Sony S350 Blue Ray Player. When I try to connect the player using HDMI, the player does not recognize that it is hooked up via HDMI. The player does work when I component cables. I was wondering if it could be my HDMI cable, Blue Ray player, or TV. Also I have turned on the HDMI recognition within the Bravia Settings. Any advice would be much appreciated.

my first bit of advice to you would be to start using "blu-ray" instead of "blue-ray"

i only have experience with the ps3, but what i would try is resetting your player with the hdmi connected.

If you have another HDMI capable device try the cable with that device to make sure its not the cable.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think the cable works fine because the Bravia sees that it is an HDMI cable and that it is connected to a Blu Ray player. Do you think it could possible the player itself? The reason why I am asking this is that when I reset the player and then went to select the Output it doesn't even allow me to select HDMI. Was wondering if you guys ever saw that?

I'm having the exact same problem. Sony S350 blu-ray hooked up to a Sony Grand Wega LCD projection via HDMI. I've tried alternate HDMI cables with no luck. (Component cables work fine). I sent the brand new player to Sony for service. I received a voicemail message from their technician today saying HDMI output appears fine, didi you check the cables?
I will be returning their call tomorrow.

Add me to the list as I am also having the same problem with this sony s330 bd player: It doesn't recognize the hdmi cord and its not even letting me select hdmi in video format settings: Its like its grayed out. I've tried 3 different hdmi cords and they work with my cable tv so its not the cable. So it has to be the player. Could it need a firware update or something?? Does anyone know?

Here's what I know...

My new Sony S350 Blu-ray will not play via HDMI on my 3 year old Sony KDF-E50A10 LCD projection TV. The HDMI option in greyed out in the video setup input. The Blu-ray IS recognized via component cables. The unusual thing is that my Tivo Series 3 HD WILL play via HDMI.

My local Sony rep said that he's talked to Sony about my problem, and it MIGHT be a faulty PD board. He said this $400 repair may or may not fix my problem.

Anyone else?
