Default Marvel NOW - Superior Spider-Man

We got quite a few of these Marvel NOW threads going but didn't see one for this week's Superior Spider-Man (Mods feel free to combine if one exists!)

I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of the first issue!

I've only been a casual Spider-Man reader (DC guy here ) but I've been giving a bunch of Marvel NOW titles a shot (FF is my favourite so far) and I must say I'm impressed with Dan Slott's shake up on the Spidey universe.

I can see how it pisses long time fans off but I personaly enjoyed the first issue a lot. Enough so that I'm willing to add it to my pull list for a while. It was the final pages that really hooked me.

Let's discuss

Force ghost...that is all I will say without giving away spoilers. I think most fans left reading Marvel comics realize that continuity is not that important anymore to the company and everything seemingly gets overturned in a year or two.

See - I actually liked that moment. Perhaps its a question of how long you've been reading and your thoughts on legacy/continuity. I've only been reading comics steadily for five years (always a fan when I was a kid of the classic 90s Marvel/DC shows but finally got into buying issues in my 20s!) Continuity doesn't bother as much so long as the story itself is worth the read i guess.

My two cents

Next issue should be all kinds of creepy when you consider Doc Ock previously wooed Aunt May.

I imagine in Peter's body he will be going after younger targets. Look out, Mary Jane!

I have heard from insiders that the series will last 16 issues and then come back to Amazing...

Guess we will see if that's the truth.

That would make sense considering Amazing Spiderman 2 is coming out in 2014 and if they plan on attracting more people to comics they will want Peter back in the role of Spidey not Dr Ock

They have to bring Peter back. They want to bring more people in after the second movie they can't have Doc Ock as Spiderman

Just like they did with Batman and Arnold. He'll be back

I must say...this is the best comic book series I've read in ages. I'm a very very casual comic book fan too - the last series I followed were The Boys and Kick Ass 1.

This Superior Spider-Man storyline with Doc Ock playing Spiderman is TOTALLY interesting. I love it!

I fell out of the habit of buying comics late last year when my feeble student finance denied me it, and I've never really gotten back in because so much has changed. I stopped buying Spider-Man just as the Dying Wish story arc was bringing the series to a conclusion, and reading this forum I regret not picking up The Superior Spider-Man thus far. Will probably by it as a collected version in a graphic novel now since I'm falling that far behind.

Absolutely loving the Superior Spider-Man and this is coming from a HUGE Peter Parker fan boy!

I read so much hate regarding Superior and I myself was sceptical about Doc Ock being the new Spider-Man, but I must admit I'm really enjoying the story so far (I'm up to issue 6). I like how he's sort of out smarting Peter by using his genius to help with his Spider-Man duties. Also I like how he's really messing up Peter's Spider-Man reputation, I can't wait to see how Peter will deal with that once back in HIS body!

So from what I'm reading so far I'm enjoying Doc Ock running around in Peter's body but I REALLY can't wait for the day Peter finally finds his way back!

Bring on issue 7 and the Shadowland story arc!

As a long time reader of Spider-man (I used to own Amazing Fantasy 15 and 9/10 of the first 10 issues) I have to say I am not happy with the direction they have taken in the past few years. Brand New Day..blah...Having said that I am trying to give the new series a chance. I am holding off reading it for a bit still, waiting so I can read a few in a row.

Also, I think everyone knew that Peter would be back in 1-2 years. Marvel isn't crazy enough to let it go longer than that. Especially with a new movie on the horizon.

I thought Dan Slott had some major balls for doing this, UNTIL one issue into it, he shows that stupid Ghost Peter Parker. So lame.
