I got my answer on another forum. They had hardcovers when they first released. But DC stopped making them when they started releasing paperbacks. I would actually prefer hardcover because i like the quality of them. But paperback is fine.

Yeah the trade paperbacks are missing a couple of issues. But im not getting those anyway. I like the cover art and the way the book editions are collected better.

Yep. Im a few pages in and i love it.

Should of turned this into a animated TV show.

It's certainly more enjoyable if you've read thousands of issues from DC's Silver Age comics, but a working knowledge of DC and its main characters is enough. Some of the characters used in it were obscure back in 1985, much less today.

Just picked up The Long Halloween earlier today and I'm loving it so far. It's my first graphic novel but it definitely won't be my last.

It's probably the best self-contained Batman story, at least from a writing perspective. I wish another artist had done the visuals.

And I suppose Batman: Earth One was interesting. I just really feel that as he's gone on, his quality has diminished. His run on Justice League had been pretty poor up to the time I stopped reading it. And the rumors about his interference on the Green Lantern movie just make me think perhaps this guy has already passed his prime.
I hope you're reading his Aquaman run right now, it's fantastic! I agree with you on John's run with JL right now, but with issue #15 and this "Throne of Atlantis" storyline, it's stepped up to the book it should have been when Jim Lee was on it.

I was a bit late to the graphic novel scene, but the first thing I read was A Dame to Kill For. I love that book. I couldn't put it down. I also really liked The Long Halloween and Green Arrow: Year One.

I'll wait until the story concludes itself and then give it a go. I'd love to reaffirm my appreciation for the man and say that his success hasn't gotten to his head and neutered his talent. We shall see.

Johns' handling of the Justice League has been horrible, to say the least. I'm not sure I like a single thing he has done with the team.

Read through this whole thread and was shocked that no one has mentioned the FABLES series. I myself just discovered this long-running series but read the first 18 issues in 2 days and I am loving it. It is kinda like an awesome version of the TV show ONce Upon a Time. Very funny and great bloody action and characters. Really happy my library has all 17 graphic novel sets (so far), the 9 volumes of the spin-off Jack of Fables and other works in this series.
So, I highly recommend this series and I say that as someone who is also a Fan of Sandman, Preacher, Y:the LAst Man, Walking Dead, Watchmen , Batman, etc.

I read through the 30 Days of Night mini series by Steve Niles a while back. I thought it was well written & the illustrations were great. You can pick up all three novels from Amazon for $45.

I would definitely recommend the Locke & Key series by Joe Hill:

locke and key is without a doubt one of the best comics out there right now. the first volume is a little slow and but it sets everything up. by the time you hit volumes 3 and 4 you will be in love.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but I picked up Lemiere's Essex County and I am enjoying it so far. Also for the kick-ass fans out there or even teen titans or invincible fans, check out Danger Club vol 1 by Image.

Just received The Ultimates Vol 2 in the mail. Received a great deal on it as well, $12 and it's in pretty good shape. Some of my favorites are:

Wolverine: Enemy of the State
Alias MAX
Thunderbolts: Faith in Monsters & Caged Angels
Batman: Dark Victory
Superman: Red Son

I just ordered this from Amazon along with Criminal Macabre Omnibus 1 and 2.

I like just about anything Frank Miller and Alan Moore does. I am a big fan of the The Stand and Dark Tower omnibus series. The Walking Dead and Preacher are must own books. I love the Marvel/DC omnibus books, they collect the entire series run and story arcs and put them in one book.

I also have The Invisibles by Grant Morrison sitting on my shelf waiting for me, that sucker is 1100 plus pages.

Ok, it may be a little self-serving, but I totally recommend this Image Comics Western anthology:

It contains my first published story, "Corrallin' Up A Memory."

Typically, I'm not into the western genre, but I am a HUGE history buff, so I did some research and found a topic that I could spin a little yarn about.
