maybe.
WARNING--if you do not want to know if Peter parker is possibly dead do not read this thread. [Show spoiler] ![]() http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...-spider-406380 http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2012/...rkers-fate/#/0 Last edited by Arkadin; 12-27-2012 at 01:31 AM. |

Wow. That sounds really dumb.
I knew they were rebooting, and figured Peter would die in the final issue, but the mind-swap thing sounds absolutely silly. Not a huge Marvel reader anyway, so no biggie. But wow, can't wait to see what silly retcon they pull later. |

No offense guys, but I'm pretty sure it's next to impossible not to spoil this issue. It's everywhere. They're not hiding it. Sure, it's not quite plastered on the front like "Death of Superman", but there isn't a corner of the internet that isn't just as boldly stating such.
I just flipped through the issue real quick. It seems like a long elaborate storyline that has reached it's conclusion. Perhaps I was quick to call it crap, as there do seem to be some nice poignant moments, but it still just seems unnecessary. They just killed Peter last year in the Ultimate line, so why go and get rid of him in the 616 universe? I can't lie and say I'm not at least halfway curious to see where they take the Superior line to, but even Otto's statement at the end just makes you think it's gonna go to his head and Peter will reclaim his body in some ridiculously convoluted plot in less than a year. We shall see. I'll likely just read the headlines on where they take it, as my love of DC books tends to dominate my time. |

Good job posting huge spoilers for some people in the subject line.
As for the story, it was really well done. And this will be an interesting exploration of what makes a hero. Plus Doc Ock is a far more interesting character than Peter Parker ever was. So this should be fun. Also Superior Spider-Man looks like it'll be a fun read. Especially from the preview. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=42836 |

people are ridiculous.
every website on the ****ing internet has huge headlines saying "Peter parker Dies!! I mean the odds of you getting the issue yourself and actually finding out for the first time while reading the issue are exactly 0%. I mean good grief. ![]() (btw: I did revise a bit due to complaints; well I tried, but it won't work; I have pmed a mod to edit the title for me) EDIT: it has been edited now. thank you mod. And yet people who are avoiding spoilers should be safe on a Non-Comics focused website.
So it's not people being ridiculous. There's no need to name the thread this other to shock and spoil people. It would like posting a huge spoiler in the subject line for a movie in the movie or blu-ray forum. Kinda lame. |

as I have stated I have pmed a mod to edit the title and there is nothing else I can do at this time.
I am sorry if I spoiled anything. I honestly wasn't thinking anything about that because I just saw the info everywhere. my thread title certainly wasn't meant to shock or whatever. It was just the facts as I saw them reported everywhere else. so that wasn't even in my thinking. I wasn't thinking one bit about an "issue" of spider-man. I guess that's my fault. don't know what else to say. Last edited by Arkadin; 12-26-2012 at 11:07 PM. |

Another publicity stunt by Marvel to boost short-term sales. Every few years Marvel feels it necessary to really mess with Peter's status quo. He will be back in the saddle around the time of the next movie's release. The following line from the article makes me cringe:
Now, as per the common trend in comics, the tone of the franchise will take on a darker shade. As such, Marvel will cast aside the Amazing title for a new, fresh one: Superior Spider-Man. Marvel might as well get it over with and do the Watchmen version of Spider-Man. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok, a buddy of mine works at a comic shop and he let me read this last week early, didn't post until today so not to spoil anything.
Spider-Man was not my first comic. Mine was an issue of Captain America when i was 5. I liked it, but it did not grab me. So my grandfather took me to the drugstore and said I could pick out any comic I wanted. I picked this one: ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us I loved it. Every second of it. I have never missed an issue of Amazing since. Ever. Peter Parker is not like everyone else. He has hardships, and his life could theoretically be any of ours. He was someone gifted extrodinary powers and became a hero born out of a tragedy, who tried for the rest of his life to live up to the responsibility of his gifts. Peter is not like everyone else. Now, Marvel has made some truly terrible decisions in the name of "keeping things fresh", and really, no other character has suffered more because of it. Clone Saga, Aunt May "dying", The Other, Civil War and reveling his identity, One More Day/Brand New Day, and now this. Through it all, including One More Day, i gave them the benefit of the doubt. I personally felt they should let Aunt May finally die, and leave the marriage alone. But, thats not what they did for whatever reason. And I am have been enjoying Spidey ever since. It felt like new life for old webhead. Humming along, we got great Spidey stories including: New Ways To Die, 24/7, Spidey 600, Spider Island, etc. When they announced 700, and Superior Spider-man, i was skeptical, but waited for the story. And now i have read it. Not only is this an unoriginal story (hello Rouge/Ms.Marvel), but it is a slap in the face to the character and the fans who have been reading the book for 50 years. To have a villain under the mask in anyway is a disservice to everything that makes the character great. This is one of the reasons we have ultimate spidey. For them to screw around with, and yes kill. Stories that can be told outside of continuity. And i am especially mad at Dan Slott. Now, i enjoy his Spider-Man, i really do.But after reading his twitter and interviews these last 2 weeks, he is an arrogant jerk. He is not doing this because he was "inspired" or that is where the story took him, he is doing it to be controversial and to make money. Yes Dan, Peter is a fictional character, but as you put it, there are many stories starring Peter, he does not belong to YOU. Ownership belongs to Marvel, but Spidey and Peter belong to the WORLD *******. You would not have a job if we did not buy your books, and for you to be this brazen about all of this makes you look very small. He knew doing something of this magnitude, no matter what it was, would cause an uproar. for him to claim otherwise is an insult, and he is pathetic. I have no idea if i will continue after this. I take my Spider-Man too seriously i guess lol, but it has been weird thinking about this for the last week. My stories with Peter will always be there, and I am sure that he will also be back, but they fact that they feel the need to do this makes me mad. Sad Spidey fan today ![]() Last edited by brownsfan1; 12-27-2012 at 05:03 AM. |

See, it's fans like you that I truly sympathize for. As you mentioned, Spidey has been the butt of a lot of bad ideas but always seemed to bounce back. I enjoy the character but have never been a "lifer"; that honor goes to Batman, whom has gone through similar controversial storylines, but by writers who seem to be much more thoughtful and talented. Morrison's work is a prime example of how to do something like this and make it work. It opened so much up for exploring new angles of classic characters without betraying the fans. For your sake, I do hope this is just another temporary gimmick that gets retconned in a year or so. But in the mean time, I feel for yah, man.

Brownsfans1, why did you stick around after Brand New Day? That is when I left Spidey behind. I'm sure like you mentioned there were some good stories to come out of it but I ultimately just reached a point where I got tired of all the revisionist storytelling, reinvention, and/or rebooting of things.
I really feel like (mainstream) comics took a bit of a nose dive a few years ago with all the new characters being brought back from the dead (Jason Todd, Bucky, etc.), cheap knock-offs of characters (X-23, Red Hulk, etc.) and the new batch of children (Dakken, Skar, Damien, etc.). To be fair, I have heard nothing but good things of the Captain America/Bucky/Winter Soldier storyline but that is what 1 out of how many that turned out that way. Don't even get me started on the rebooting. DC can't even do that right. I'm not even really upset about any of this, just bummed because I feel like some of the characters I truly enjoyed only exist in past issues and any new characters I were to get attached to would only receive the same treatment when the next writer comes along and needs to give the world "their" version of the character instead of just writing the character we all know and love. |
