Exclamation LG Drops 3D & 10000+ sign petition to restore it

Well, it's official LG dropped 3D from all of it's 2017 TVs:

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/lg-3d-201701044397.htm

I thought they saw the light. They would have been unique to keep it as it's been said that the cost for them using passive filters is minimal. My stomach dropped a bit as I'm a big 3D fan and have been since 2010 and before.

Sad...

Hopefully Sony will stick to 3D with their 2017 and beyond models.

I don't know what these manufacturers are thinking: "Oh, lots of people still watch 3D with their large collection of 3D Blu-rays but our TVs don't support 3D. It doesn't cost that much more but our TVs still don't support 3D. The Force Awakens 3D and Rogue One 3D you say? Hmm...nope, our TVs will not support 3D"

I hope they continue with the OLED TVs they are supposed to be showing at 2017 CES. Passive and OLED are a marriage that should not be broken up. I know LG has their reasons but this is bad news for 3D lovers.

What a shame. I'm going to have to pick up a 2016 model before they're all gone.

LG's 2017 OLEDs do not support 3D. If you're a 3D enthusiast who has been considering an OLED TV, now would be a good time to pick up a 2016 model.

This is tough now. I still haven't decided between LG or Sony, Passive vs Active on a 4K display and HDR10 vs Dolby Vision. Now they pull this.

Sony probably...

This news makes me sick to my stomach.

I can understand dumping curved screens, but passive 3D that costs nothing and everyone says looks amazing? Sounds like a stitch-up of some kind.

It's a year or two before I need to upgrade but I guess I'll just have to buy one for my mother or something...

This truly sucks. I hope Sony stick with 3D this year but it doesn't look good. I think 3D will still exist in projectors tho which why I'm glad I have one with the capability

Its no use trying to keep up with every new feature. They will **** the consumer over for money as always. Im still pissed I got my lg 4k tv in 2014 now that hdr is out and it doens have it. With that said I have a great passive 3d picture that now folk wont have. So Ima appreciate that andjust get a 4k oled with hdr anddolby vision later.

This is really unexpected to say the least with more 3D movies released every year.

3D is niche, like 4K will always be.

Interesting from NeoGAF:

Quote:
The Sony rumor is aggressively priced OLED TVs using LG panels
So, would that mean 3D, or not, since LG isn't producing 3D anymore?

Wow, this is one of those times I hate when I'm right. I saw the writing on the wall and picked up a 65UH8500 this year even though I could barely afford it.

After Samsung ditched 3D I knew I'd better go ahead and get one if I wanted a TV that does both 4K and 3D.
