The Prometheus/Alien double bill was aces!

The audience was very surprised to see that Prometheus was being screened first. One guy clearly said, 'Oh, for ****'s sake,' before leaving the cinema. I never saw him return for Alien. Guess the thought of enduring Prometheus for two hours was too much to bear.

Anyway, we had a Ridley Scott intro immediately before Alien, and then once the end credits were over, we were treated to two scenes from Covenant. I've been cautiously optimistic for a while now - excited, but also concerned that they were back-pedalling instead of delivering a 'proper' Prometheus sequel. While the footage didn't dispel that in the slightest, it gave my Alien fanboy boner such a tug that I honestly don't care anymore. Dat Goldsmith-esque score. Dat dark photography. Dat character interaction. It was also bloody and visceral as ****. If this gets an 18 certificate in the UK, I wouldn't be surprised.

The sneak peek was then followed by the prologue with Shaw and David, but you guys have seen that by now.

I guess Scott couldn't just make a Shaw and David surviving in space movie because he already just covered that territory in THE MARTIAN.

Went to the Alien day screening of Alien at Regal RPX, there was a 10 minute preview from Covenant that followed, showed more than I would have thought. I was thinking maybe the opening 10 minutes, nope, got right into the action. Won't spoil anything but as a fan of the franchise, I am looking forward to this a little bit more now. Loving the score for the scenes as well.

Default Alien Day 2017: Go Go Nostromo

First time seeing Alien on the big screen since 1979. And what a screen it was! Also my first visit to a Regal RPX, and was very impressed; projection, screen, sound and seating were all excellent. The same location also has a terrific Classic IMAX (seeing GOTG 2 Opening Night next Thursday), but RPX is a great option for non-IMAX titles.

In regard to Alien, what is there to say other than Scott's masterpiece and one of my most favorite, and re-watched, films. Regal screened the theatrical cut, and it looked and sounded just as I remembered in 1979. While not as ambitious and revolutionary as 2001, Alien is arguably as or more influential in the context of imitation providing the highest degree of flattery, and in my opinion a far greater ride.

In regard to the Alien: Covenant, my RPX screened the latest trailer, followed by a message from Scott about Alien: Covenant, then Alien (1979), the prologue and finally the sneak peek. As shared, the sneak peek was more than a peek, and without giving to much away, the peek
[Show spoiler]positioned the film as the most intense, gory and violent chapter
in the franchise. Needless to say, I can't wait for Opening Night to find out!

And check out the swag!

Purchased my tickets for Alien Covenant earlier in the week. Unfortunately, it isn't playing in 3D, anywhere near me. This is a first for me. We have many IMAX theaters, a few RPXs and my local theater, has the AMC Dolby Cinema Atmos theater. Surprisingly, none are playing 3D? WTF?

I even checked theaters in DC and Maryland, nada!!

Everyone expected Covenant to be a 3D release, myself included. However, it seems this is 2D only release.

Also, here is a very detailed look at NECA's figurine for the Xenomorph:

I loved Alien/Aliens and Prometheus but the trailer for this does nothing for me. Wouldn't be surprised if it underperforms.

Jed Kurzel scored Alien: Covenant, and if the rest of the film is anything like the sneak peek, not to mention Assassin's Creed, Macbeth and Snowtown, we're in for a treat.

Thanks.
I'm disappointed it won't be in 3D as it could've offered potentially strong 3D horror, but it's possible when the film got bumped up a few months to May from August, they had to drop the 3D conversion. I was just picturing the double jaw mouth lunging out of the screen in strong 3D, the infant Alien bursting out of that guy's back, spores floating out of the screen, plenty of 3D layers inside and outside the ship, etc... Even so, I'll still see this in theaters as a fan of the Alien series and Prometheus.

Thanks, NECA makes some awesome action figures, display models. That looks great.

There's a Vietnamese trailer on youtube that has extra shots of:

[Show spoiler]The black goo urns falling out of the juggernaut and bombing the engineers/ humanoid aliens.

Regarding the prologue footage, I strongly suspect the Shaw and David stuff will not be in the final movie, and that's why they're releasing it now, as they shot it but decided there wasn't time to include it. The final bit of the prologue from the ship arriving in the atmosphere to the bombing is definitely in the movie as that was all described from the 4chan test screenings.

As usual Fox wants to spoil as much of this movie as possible before release just like with Prometheus.

I attended Odeon's Alien Day screenings of Prometheus/Alien/Covenant bonus footage. I won’t talk about the films or the Covenant ‘prologue’ (because you can see that for yourselves online), but I’ll go in depth about the new footage below. Spoilers, obvs.

[Show spoiler]So the new footage we were shown comprised of two separate scenes. The first is pretty standard and looks to be from near the start of the movie. We’re introduced to some of the crew on a ship who are communicating with an outside exploration team. There’s the usual sort of banter we always get but nobody stands out as particularly memorable as yet. This scene is fairly short. Unfortunately I was so caught up in everything that I didn’t get to remember character names, but I’ll try my best to explain the rest regardless…

The second set of footage has clearly skipped ahead a few scenes into the film and shit is starting to get real. As we’ve seen glimpses of in the trailers, we now have a sick crew member quickly becoming a gibbering, convulsing mess. He’s being guided back to the ship by a female crew member while the female captain (pretty sure her name was Faris) does the usual Alien schtick of not particularly wanting a possibly contagious dude infecting her whole ship. Still, he and his helper get to the med bay and Faris locks them inside while she calls for advice from a team of base who were also heading back with an infected guy. He says to hold on (thanks for nothing).

By this time original infected dude is in a bad way - this is the trailer glimpse where we get a shot of something breaking out of his back while his colleague pleads to be let out of the med bay because whatever’s happening isn’t good. Faris is pretty keen on keeping the door locked. So the next part? Hella gory. A neomorph bursts from the dude’s back bringing a bunch of blood and guts with it. Dude is very dead. Colleague is freaking out. The neomorph starts to evolve before our eyes at an alarming rate and decides colleague is lunch.

Faris goes to get a weapon. She returns and opens the door to a scene of blood EVERYWHERE. Colleague is very dead. Neomorph hasn’t broken a sweat but it’s sliding around like an angry Bambi on ice. Faris tries to shoot it but ends up slipping on the blood as well and landing on her ass. She shimmies out of the room as neomorph advances, and succeeds in trapping her foot when trying to close the door, causing herself some damage. She just manages to get it locked in but the neomorph is at the window, headbutting glass like a true punk rocker.

Faris limps back to comms, trying to get her team back sharpish. They’re still a way to go (though to be fair they’re not walking very fast). The neomorph is out of the med bay and gunning for Faris, who can’t seem to get a clear shot at it. She ends up shooting a canister instead and sending the whole ship up in flames. The team arrive back in time to see the ship explode, with Faris wandering around engulfed in fire before collapsing.

The team are so horrified they almost forget about infected dude #2 who suddenly gives birth to his own little neomorph in a geyser of blood and viscera. This neomorph isn’t fussed about snacks and skips off into the wilderness while the team stand there with a collective ‘WTF’ look.

The End!
