I have replaced my entire vinyl rig, table, phono stage, cart. The cart on this table is a Denon DL-301mkII. My old Debut Carbon has an Ortofon 2M Red with a 2M blue stylus. I have noticed much more detail, bass, and less noise, (crackles, and pops) with this cart more of the good stuff comes through.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Doesn't mention ground wire? The phono cable from the TT to the Rega phono stage cannot be replaced as it is built into the Rega P1. So maybe, just maybe I need a phono cable with ground wire to the receiver? The exact same cables/phono stage/TT worked perfectly at the shop. |

Recently upgraded my table. I now have the new Rega P3 with the premounted Elys 2 cartridge. I'm running it through the phono input on my Marantz receiver to an SVS Prime setup (bookshelves, center, satellites and sub). Cartridge has about 50 hours on it.
I'm noticing that when I play CDs and whatnot through my Oppo, I get a much richer sound. I'm thinking that something is missing from my analog setup - either the cart isn't lush enough, or the phono input isn't that great. Anyone have any thoughts? Will double check the alignment. Tracking force is set to 1.75 using a digital scale. The Elys 2 just sounds a bit lifeless to me. Everything is there, but it's not very engaging - just sort of ho hum. Thinking of changing to a Nagaoka MP-110. Also looking at something like the Schiit Mani or saving and getting a Parks Audio Budgie (I'm a tinker so tubes to adjust would be up my alley). Just wasn't sure if I'm missing something with the Elys 2 or if I should be looking at a better phono stage. |

Recently my vintage turntable died leaving me with my cheapo Sony starter turntable. Finally got around to upgrading. I decided to go with an Orbit custom based on options and price and I couldn't be happier. Nothing crazy but sounds great compared to the Sony.

You can add me to the list. I've had a turntable since I bought my first stereo in the mid 80's. I see you usually post what type of turntable etc. each member has. If that's necessary, forget about me. I'm not interested in sharing that info with strangers.

I bought my first turntable setup today, since I've accrued about 30 vinyl records over the years mainly for decorative/collector purposes and want to listen to them. (My 1,500 or so CDs dwarfs my vinyl collection, to say the least.)
Below is a photo of my setup. It was brought to my attention by an audiophile on Facebook that I should not have my speakers (Klipsch R-41 with built-in amp) on the same surface as my beginner's level turntable (Audio-Technica LP60), although the person said that it probably wouldn't make a huge difference if I'm playing the music at a modest volume in my living room as I always do in my townhouse. Due to my living room setup, it is not quite possible to put the speakers on a different surface, although I did spread them out from the record player moreso than in the below photo. I have not noticed any issues with the sounds of the records, but, then again, I'm a vinyl novice. Just now, I ordered some isolation pads for the speakers from Amazon. The isolation pads will fit underneath the speakers. Does that sound like a viable solution, given my setup circumstances? ![]() Last edited by The Great Owl; 08-28-2020 at 11:35 PM. |

$109 instead of $199, but the Aperta ones are a bit cooler and more of a premium product. They both get a lot of five-star reviews online. Last edited by The Great Owl; 08-31-2020 at 08:56 PM. |

I am not yet an official turntable owner, but I soon will be.
After much research, I decided on the Project Debut Carbon Esprit SB. I was going to get the Project Debut Carbon and upgrade it later to an acrylic platter, but I realised that if I bought the "Esprit" version right away, it would be cheaper than upgrading later, plus I will have a slightly better turntable. |

I decided to swap out my Audio Technica LP60X entry level turntable ($100) for an Audio Technica LP120X turntable ($250), since I wanted the ability to adjust the toning arm tracking and the ability to upgrade the stylus/cartridge in the future.
The LP60X was good, but a handful of my records skipped during certain sound passages and those same records don't skip on the new setup. The first record I played on this LP120X was ABC - The Lexicon of Love, because a couple of bass-heavy tracks on the second side used to skip on my LP60X. They played perfectly through without skipping. The process of setting up the tracking weight and cartridge alignment was pretty intimidating to my caveman intellect, but everything worked out well. (The old LP60X is fully automatic with the toning arm already set up, but the LP120X is a fully manual turntable with a better counterweight, etc.) I went the full nine yards, with a stylus weight gauge to measure the tracking force (spot-on) and a protractor to measure the alignment (good for government work.). The improvement in audio quality is notable. The old turntable sounded pretty great, but the new one has a lot more oomph because of the better stylus, counterweight, and anti-skate. I love how the dots on the platter verify the correct speeds for 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. (The roll-top desk in my living room where I keep the turntable and powered Klipsch speakers has always been just for looks, and I don't even have a chair for it. I do my office work upstairs at a desk alcove.) ![]() Last edited by The Great Owl; 12-20-2020 at 04:46 PM. |
