I sense sarcasm lol But you are missing the point. You joke about "3D transcendence" but hasn't your understanding improved after watching many 3D movies and listening to 3D reviewers like Bunker and GFF? Yes my software based system has steadily improved over the years. But that just means that I am better able to see what what was always there.

Personally I don't think so. But like I said, I keep buying them and will as long as they release them.
You are comparing apples to oranges…for a more fair comparison you could sell the 4k disc that you don’t want and the bluray 2D on ebay and then the difference would be negligible…

For sure. Its not a bad price for the "ultimate edition" of a movie with all versions on board. By the way, beeing able to reproduce the deluxe 3D premium feeling whenever you want, while playing titles like Guardians 3 and Avatar 2 in excellent quality in our all little sweet home cinemas is priceless (!!!)

I miss movies that had good 3D. This stuff they are making today is a poor excuse for good 3D. We all accept it because it's all we can get. It's a ton better than watching it flat. Sure every movie will have a couple small spots with good 3D or at least better than most of the movie. I miss my pop outs. Depth really adds to it but I love a good pop out.
Preach

If the whole film's 3D had been as strong as the scene of Rocket walking into the bar then this could have been the 3D flick to beat. One day we'll know why we only get 30 seconds to two minutes (slight exaggeration) of strong 3D in these 2-3 hour flicks.

I'm going to get the big 3D releases whether I enjoy them or not to support the format so when a 3D movie I like is released it has a chance of a 3D home release.

I'm getting Guardians 3 and Quantumania even though neither movie left much of an impression on me.

Likely budget and time constraints. More depth means more rotoscoping = more time and cost.

I'll definitely try to watch a movie in theaters in 3D first, and that'll determine if I invest in the blu ray 3D afterwards if I liked the movie or the 3D. If I didn't like either, then I tend to avoid adding it to my collection unless the 3D was amazing. Then I'll consider it or add it on sale down the road. Of the 210+ blu ray 3Ds I have, I wish I had more time to rewatch more of them, but only 1 3D movie per week to rewatch.

Guardians 3 was good on my 2nd viewing, and the 3D held up pretty good.
I can confirm as others may have, that this was converted by:
SDFX, aka Stereo D.

They did a generally nice job for a lower budget conversion that they were paid for. I'm sure SDFX offers different tiers, where a strong 3D conversion costs a lot more, versus this mostly medium layered 3D conversion, that costs about mid price for the producers of the film.

Mostly medium 3D layers, some strong 3D layers sprinkled in there now and then.

3D Conversion Rank:

GOTG2: Mostly strong 3D layers.
GOTG1: Medium to strong 3D layers.
GOTG3: Medium with some strong 3D layering.

A couple nice pop outs here.
The out of the letter box black bars moments were neat to see again. Glad that made it to blu ray 3D like Ghostbusters 2016 did too for those "out of the frame" 3D shots.

Definitely worth a watch in 3D, and I liked the movie. Though I'd say it's the 3rd best GOTG movie. I'm a fan of the series, and at the very last scene after the credits end:
Star Lord will Return, are the words shown at the end of the film.

That means he'll be on his own probably, as
[Show spoiler]Rocket is running his own Guardians team now. Gomora with Stallone's Ravengers team. The other three on their own quests. Plus James Gunn is officially with DC for now as their leader. He won't be able to write for Marvel anymore I guess.

A Star Lord movie could be good. He's going to need some new characters to bounce his ideas off of though.

I think in the 4K br3D set, the extras are only on the 4K disc. Good thing I have a PS5 to play 4K.

Most times you can buy the blu ray for what it costs to go to a theater. Why do both? I stay away from the theater and wait for the blu ray. Usually cheaper, unless it's our special Japan releases.

Anyway, I'm done with this discussion. Besides this thread should be about Guardians and not about what I like or dislike. Sorry for taking it astray.

How do you rank the 3d vs the other MCU movies in this phase?

If you don't support the 3D while it has it's run in theaters then the studios are going to think that no one wants a 3D blu ray either. Or some movies like Pixar and Disney are guaranteed to not have a 3D blu ray release so gotta see them in theaters or never see the 3D.

Are you saying they are frame breaks (out of the black bars) in GOTG3? I'm getting ready to watch it and if there are I'll leave off my masking panels.

this is the third movie i've watched in 3D first when it was bundled with the 4K version. I immediately put on the 4K presentation afterwards and shocked by how obviously flat the digital cinematography makes everything look.
action sequences with alot of CGI going on also become more impactful and easier to follow with that extra added depth, however minimal it is.

“Minimal”…you might want to check your equipment…

regarding 3D titles with mild depth in general, not this title in particular. This was 'aight'.
