They have needed more distribution for years. Even before rightstuf was bought discotek was to dependent rightstuf and Amazon imo where any distribution dispute would be devastating.

The DVDs are definitely OOP and they want to unload them, but I've bought them for less on RS so it's not a good deal.
The blurays I believe are simply at a new all-time low. I've seen them reach 32.xx and it was only a matter of time before they'd go down to 30.

They have an eBay page that’s been left dormant since early this year. I agree Discotek need to find a new distributor because if there’s one thing they’re missing is ease of access. Lots of anime fans simply don’t know they exist.

Since I'm suck a deadbeat and haven't worked in years I've been able to catch up with my purchases
and now I am able to watch everything as it comes in just about ( well, mostly ) ....

In 30+ years all your DVDs and Blu-rays will have rotted away, manufacturers will have long stopped making disc players for them, and any players you own now will have long worn out and been discarded - so you won't even be able to play any of your collection.

I'm already feeling that with 3D Blu-rays - you can't buy any equipment to play them on any more, so I have 200+ 3D Blu-rays on my shelf that will be utterly useless as soon as my current 3D-capable hardware gives up the ghost. The non-replaceable, rechargeable lithium batteries in the sealed 3D glasses will be the first thing to go, as they only last a few years and then won't charge any more.

Nonsense. I have DVDs that are 20-25 years old that still work, and I have CDs that are 30+ years old, and those still work too. By every indication, discs should be lasting for decades to come; especially BDs, which should have even longer lifespans than DVDs. You would probably have some disc failures here and there, but it would be at most a number in the single digit % range. Unless you store them badly, but that would be your fault, not the discs.

So on disc longevity, your statement is wildly false to the point of absurdity.

The players are a little more debatable, but I think that's not likely to be true either. The presence of disc players in the PS5 and XSX suggest the production of disc players to the end of the decade at minimum, even assuming the next generation didn't include disc drives. And assuming that mainline discs players were discontinued by that point.

And I highly doubt that would be the case anyway. Even if players were discontinued in the United States, there are many smaller markets and regions where discs are more prevalent, so you probably could still import a player from elsewhere.

And even if they weren't in mass production anywhere, there'd still probably be options available. If you can buy something like this to play old GameBoy cartridges, no way that there won't be some kind of specialty/enthusiast device available to play the literally billions of discs floating around in the world.

I mean, you bring up 3D, and it is a dead format, but it's not true that you can't buy equipment to play them anymore. You can still buy 3D bluray players (including some UHD players), and while 3D TVs aren't made any more, they still make home 3D projectors. So it's not even really true with respect to 3D, except for possibly the glasses, for those that require the active glasses instead of the passive ones.

So you're not really representing things as they are, here.

Feel free to leave the hobby if you wish, but disks are not rotting away like that at all. No reason for you to make stuff up on your way out. You will still have a collectors market for this stuff even when players are less common, used stuff will exist and other methods.

If you have the time and money you could back up your BDs to M-Disc format that way your collection will be safe for 1000 years
