iTunes recognizes 4K rights ported from MA and MA supporting retailers. If you have 4K rights in MA, and iTunes has the title in 4K, you'll have it in 4K on iTunes.

Apple only upgrades HD titles to 4K purchased/redeemed on iTunes though.

FYI:

If a movie from Fox, Sony, Universal, or Warner Bros. is in 4K, and you buy it or redeem any (HD or 4K) code on iTunes, it'll send 4K rights to MA. New releases from these studios do not have an iTunes redemption code though.

If you buy a movie from Fox, Lionsgate, Paramount, MGM, Sony, Universal, or Warner Bros., and it later gets 4K on iTunes, Apple will upgrade your copy at that time, but it won't upgrade your MA rights (for the MA supporting studios) to 4K, so you'll only have 4K in iTunes, and HD everywhere else.

If you redeem a 4K code on MA, or a retailer (like VUDU) where the title is in 4K, it'll send 4K rights to MA and pass it on to retailers (like iTunes).
There is no Movies Anywhere in neck of the woods*. I was simply pointing the poster in the direction of the answer - your good self if I recall correctly.

* Except iTunes, Netflix, etc are movies anywhere so...

What he means is that if you bought the Extended version on Blu-ray and redeemed the code, you have the Extended version as the film in iTunes, not the theatrical (the theatrical might be an extra in that case, can't remember if they did that...). So if they only update the theatrical to 4k, the people that have the Extended version as the 'non-extra movie' are getting screwed...

But I suspect they'll update it eventually as all the other ones were updated to 4k...

Searching the iTunes store, it looks like only the theatrical cut is listed, which means the Extended Cut might be a hidden listing on iTunes. I know a few of the other F&F movies are like that but I can't remember which right now. I've got a BD code for extended so I guess I'll wait until someone says confirms it works.

Yeah, I believe they are all like that if they have extended versions. The Extended versions (as purchasable versions) are hidden in the store, but thatís the version you get if you redeem a digital code from the extended edition Blu-rayís. (All of My copies are like that). But they are all still 4k (the ones already released in 4k- 6 & 7) Only 2 were still HD (4 & 5 I think), so now that they are finally updating those, Iím hoping theyíll update the hidden Extended versions too... (I think only 5 has an extended version, not 4... Hard to keep track of all of these. )

I think at one time you could buy either one in the store, but since they started giving you the other version as an extra they started removing one version...

Seems like Truth or Dare is 4K now.

I was so excited when MA first started, I was able to get digital copies of so many older things that only had UV codes into iTunes and whatnot, but now it's become a problem when things are only coming out on Blu and have only MA codes, you have to decide whether to have the physical disc for your collection/to "own" it, or iTunes to get 4K... or both if you have money to burn! I just gave in and bought Escape Room on iTunes thinking it was just under the line of "need to own on disc" but am still debating what to do about Happy Birthday 2 U since I have the first on disc in a slip AND got the 4K upgrade since it wasn't MA direct yet. Dang it.

The only solution I am thinking now is get a disc and gift myself the 4K if/when the movie is $5-$8, like I could do now with ToD if I want. That minimizes the wallet burn, BUT, then you see things like The Hunger Games being downgraded and it makes you wonder if you won't just get burned in the future.

No schlocky-horror shaming please

The Hunger Games will go back to 4K eventually. We've seen this happen with other titles, I see no reason why this will be any different. The studio has no reason to remove 4K permanently.

I agree, and I'm like the 3rd person to complain about that particular movie, but it just leaves a bad taste in one's mouth, reminding you how you're renting something, not owning it. Heck, I have no right to complain actually, I got the 4K upgrade thanks to iTunes, I only had bought the 4-movie collection on Blu. I've gotten spoiled.

I hope that enough of a stink would be made if this becomes a problem for a long time and/or with more movies, it'd be serious false advertising, they're touting 4K streaming to sell the more expensive 4K Apple TV (which of course is going to become redundant as TVs start to support Apple TV, but I digress).

It is unacceptable that these titles are downgraded for so long at a time. I think if enough people voice their frustration to Apple over the issue hopefully it will be improved. After all, it must impact the sales of a movie when it is no longer listed as 4K.
