Default Sony SS-F7000, good speakers?

I've been searching for speakers. Found these one's for less than $200 for a pair!! Are they any good? I can't find a 3rd party review on them.

Help please....

Thanx

Good price on entry-level speakers, and they will do fine to get the job done with some style, but you may find that "upgrade-itis" will set in fairly quickly, especially that for a little more, you can find speakers which offer sonic improvement. Check out some of the Polk Audio speaker prices on Newegg.com, and you might find yourself justifiying the spending of a little more money.

Hey Rob I am a newbie so take it easy on me! I have been eyeballin the tsi 500 on Newegg and the cs20 center channel. I can get them for $778 no tax and free shipping. Is this a huge upgrade over what I have now? Hey and were neighbors!!! Thank you,Tim

I personally have never heard the sony speakers But I would say the TSi-500 would be A better sounding speaker & A step up !

Sony doesn't make the best speakers, but the newer line is a huge improvement over previous ones. For that price you are getting a lot of speaker. I know Polk is a favorite around here, but I'd say that those are probably on par with the Polk's Monitor series speakers. I have a pair of SS-B1000 bookshelf speakers and they are much better than I ever would have expected from Sony due to my experience with past offerings. Like it was stated before, these are very solid entry level speakers.

The TSi line of Polk's is definitely an upgrade, but to be honest I don't know how much of an upgrade you'd be looking at. You may get a little more clarity out of them over the Sony's, but I think saving up for something different is probably a better way to upgrade from where you're at now. There are many options out there that will sound much better for your money. The Polk's aren't a bad speaker, but I think its a small upgrade and with a little more money you can get a much substantial upgrade. You could maybe look at some DefTechs or some Energy speakers, or even some Paradigms as I think something along those lines would be a more noticeable upgrade.

OP,

I used to own Sony speakers, and Sony speakers tend to be boomy, and the mids are not very good when comparing them to other speaker manufactures. I know the 7000s do a better job of this then the 5000s that I owned, but I still found that the 8" woofers tended to be too boomy. Of them all the 6000s I liked the best, but even those cannot stand up to what you can get from a company like Energy with the pair of c-300s that I have. For $260/pr, you can still get some Energys C-300s from Audio Advisor and then pick up the C-C50 center channel for about $80 and would be a much better investment then you would get from the Sony's.

Honestly for the money that your talking about, I wouldn't personally go buy Polks, there is a lot more you could throw that money into.... Not that Polks are bad, I just think that if you look around there are speakers that are much better that are on sale and can be had for around your budget.

You could check out the Monitor Audio BR5s $650 list and the BRCLR center, look at www.monitoraudiousa.com, you will need to negotiate down some with your local dealer, but I am sure you could come in right around the $800 mark. Or you can check out the Energy RC-30s $245/ea on www.audioadvisor.com and match that with a RC Mini center channel $199 or the RCLCR center speaker $325 @ www.vanns.com.

If your willing to build slowly also look at www.6ave.com at teh Paradigm Monitor 7 v.5 that they have had on sale for about $379 ea. and then save up for the center channel.

Good Luck.

I agree with this- also wanna chime in that callas is definitely the person to listen to when it comes to Sony speakers since he has had them and now has something to compare them to. Another option if you can't go more expensive is to look at the Polk Monitor series. They're discontinued and have slightly simpler cabinets, but they're the same sound as the TSi line. At that price range, you should go out and listen to as many speakers as you can.

Hi!
Just register to tell you that if you still didnt buy them, you are wasting time, because this speakers do everything fine, maybe too much mids, but can be corrected with a parametric EQ.-
My two cents, there are no better bang for the buck than this

Tang,

Sorry I never did get a hold of this thread again. I see you went with Polk Audio Monitor 70s! A very good speaker and a clear step up from your original request! Bi-amped, too! The CS20 is an outstanding center channel speaker. That's the one I plan on upgrading to (currently have a Polk CSi25 center channel speaker originally purchased a couple years ago from The Stereo Advantage).

We ARE neighbors! I have a few good friends in North Tonawanda.
