Being the 2 is in a bigger enclosure with extra drivers,it probably sounds a bit bigger, but not a whole lot diff.
I went to BB tonight and listened to the ML ESL's,monitor 40's,def tech 8040,8060,B&W 684's. The B&W's did nothing for me. The ESL's sounded good, they were hardly in the best position tho. They absolutely need a sub. The 40's had a lot more of a full sound. Better bass also. I threw on the def tech's and they just destroyed everything.I realize they have subs in them,so I used a sub for the other speakers but not for the def tech's. The 8040's sounded just a bit smaller than the 8060,probably exactly how the GE 2's sound against the 3's. The bipolar def tech's lit up the back wall. Its a nice effect. I had the 8060's,I liked them but they still sound sharp in the treble, almost like movie theater sharp. Maybe if you turned the treble down -1 it would take it away. The mirages don't have that. I still have the HD 8060 center channel. |

my local BB will allow you to move the speakers to hear them better but most of the speakers there are not setup correctly. They do have one room where things are setup pretty well. The CMs are OK, I do prefer the 600s as I think the value is much better and performance isnt that far off from the CMs to warrant the price increase. I have heard the CM9s next to a pair of Studio 100s as well. I thought perhaps the bass was a little tighter on the 9s, but the 100s highs were more open and mid-range slightly cleaner.
Have not heard a GE speaker, and have heard DT speakers, but they dont move me. Have not heard the new Motion speakers, but would like to. |

The DT's blow the ML Motion 40's away. The 40's sound good if you listen without comparing them to the DT's. The DT's light up the wall behind them, makes the sound nice and big. I'm sure if you turned the sub down to zero it would probably sound like the other ,maybe worse, but it was a big difference. The DT's sound really good, but like I said before, not as smooth as the Mirages..

The Motion 40s have some serious issues. Check out these measurements. Notice the enormous 10dB dip in between 1kHz and 500Hz in the listening window graph (3rd one down). That's smack in the middle of the human vocal range, and a lot of instruments as well. Not good. Also, the impedance graph makes it look like a bit of a tough load. 4-5 ohm nominal.

That's just weird. Wouldn't you think they would have addressed that before they went into production? The problem with GE's is they are more for music,HT was an after thought. There is no way that small center stack up with the Mirage C2. I know what Bluevette thinks of it. I'd have to hear it to believe it.

The problem I have with the 50,is you can use it for LRC,its more for flat panel screens. I don't like that kind of design. If you have a small room it might be ok,but there is no way its getting as much sound in the room as a bigger dedicated center. Having said that,if you used height speakers with it ,that would probably work well.

I had the Newton T 300's from Cambridge Audio for years and The DT's just sound very thin to them. Last edited by mreilly611; 11-08-2012 at 04:44 PM. |

well for two channel with my turntable it's night and day. the axioms were great but the goldenears just sound sublime to me. obviously the bass is just tons better. even when I throw on pandora with the reciever it's just stupid nice. when it comes to home theater the imaging is better and the highs are not as shrill but they seem to be "sharper" "higher" "cleaner". i get a bit more envelopment and 3d sound basically. so far I'm thrilled and did get the supersat50c and sticking with it. still breaking them in, but very happy with the upgrade. my pics are old now. don't have the wides and my reciever is a denon 3312. gotta go finish live free or die harder . I'll update the pics hopefully this weekend. |

C'mon, no politics here. It'll get ugly, then. Moving on...finished my review of the Triton Threes in the past week. Not my cup of tea, but objectively a very good speaker. Lot of performance for $2k.
