denis villeneuve is a competent director, but he's yet to make a truly great film. br2049, prisoners and sicario were good, enemy and arrival were trash. as strange as it sounds, he still doesn't have his own style. hence why i'm super cautious for dune.

Have I already mentioned that Jennifer Lawrence is overrated and a mediocre actress?

Same for Emma Watson, who is a downright terrible actress.

Overrated, maybe. Mediocre, IMO, no. She's head and shoulders above her contemporaries. I've developed a surprising appreciation for her since I saw her in mother! A subtle and sensitive performance that I previously assumed was beyond her.

I haven't seen it yet, but this is kind of how I felt about Warcraft. Which I thought was a pretty original concept. Yes, there are some predictable parts, but still a fun popcorn movie.

Mixing up Resnais and Rivette is probably more understandable than Rivette and Rohmer. So I'm heading in the right direction at least!

Denis, like Nolan, is completely reliant on his cinematographer for providing "style". I love Sicario, Polytechnique, and Incendies, but stylistically I can't place them with the rest of his filmography. Thematically there are links, sure, but nothing that can attest to a singular visual style. He just makes movies and so far he has been incredibly lucky in getting the best scripts, actors, and cinematographers around.

Gladiator is extremely overrated. Average at best.

I agree that it's extremely overrated. But I wouldn't dare to call it average at best, I think even that's too nice.

It does get better with repeated viewings, I thought it was a so-so movie the first time I watched and enjoyed it a lot more the second time.

I have a much lower opinion of Prisoners vs Arrival, but I agree at this point he more seems to have the potential to become a great Director rather than already being one.

While watchable I have always found the praise for Gladiator a bit baffling. It has always seemed to me to be a "7 that thinks it's a 10".

The lost world: Jurassic park is actually pretty decent. It's a stronger film than jurassic world.
And it isn't even close!

I love Nolan's Batman films, but I don't think there is a huge disparity between TDK and TDKR. BB is the best of the 3 movies and Ledger's death had a huge amount to do with elevating the perception of his performance to "best ever!!!"

I'll do you one better and say Nemesis is on the same level as WOK. I also say WOK is only the 5th best Trek film behind TMP, Journey Home, Undiscovered Country and First Contact.

For one of my own I think Manhunter is the best movie with Hannibal Lecter and Brian Cox gave a better performance as that character than Anthony Hopkins did in any of his films. Cox displays danger and intelligence but is still believable as an actual human that could function in society. Hopkins is so over the top he's like Dracula. Anyone interacting with that guy on the street would instantly be like "serial killer!"

I agree with this also Melissa Mccarthy isn't funny she just plays the same clumsy fat chick in every movie.

Also Men In Black 3 is a great movie better than 2 on par with 1

Spider-Man 3 is a decent movie if you ignore dancing Peter Parker and sub par venom

The last Nolan Batman movie was like 6 years ago. Why are we still talking about that trash every page.

mother was the worst film I saw last year., and not because I didn't understand it. Had a good style and cast but none of that saved it.

When I saw it last year, the audience I was with were laughing at the end, "Is that it?" comments etc.

Have I already mentioned that this opinion is cliché and frankly overused? On this site, it’s not an unpopular opinion.

Rogue One and Jurassic World are bad movies

The only good Star Wars films post-OT are Revenge of the Sith and The Last Jedi

Jupiter Ascending is great

Ninja Assassin is easily the BEST movie about ninjas to date. The wharehouse confrontation alone is better than any other action set piece from any film in the genre.
